turbo for quick spool

Ive been doing some auto x this year and been using a to4b turbo with a t4 .96 exhaust. spool is so damn slow that i dont even hit full boost 95% of the time. I got a buddy that would give me a good deal on a to4e t4 .63 exhaust. I figured since i would only be in 1st and 2nd gear auto x'ing this would give me instant boost like i need. I only plan to run 15psi on it. Anybody ran into this problem? Any input would be appreciated.

First you should get out of the parking lots and get on a real track. I kid, I kid. Swapping to a smaller exhaust would be the cheapest/easiest way to help your spooling issue. Plus it would give you the option of swapping back should you want to. I did the same thing on my WRX back in the day.

In your signature it says T67. So which turbo do you have, a T67 or a To4B?

I had a t67 but it was too big for auto x. So i took it off and bought a to4b.

Even with the biggest To4B you should have very fast spool. I have run a ton of them in the past, although I only ran one on a log style manifold( simliar A/Rs to yours 1.0~ish+). First thing I would do is check engine compression. Weak engines just do not create as much heat....

I thought spoolup had to do with the turbine housing size and wheel?

you should NOT be having lag issues with that turbo. I've autocrossed mine and was reaching full boost by 4K. Street ported motor. It was faster spool than stock. I think something else might be wrong, and you should definitely explore other possibilities, before you go dumping money down the wrong drain. Best of luck. We've all been there.
