I have a holset hx52 turbo. I have had oil leak problems on two different turbos.
Here is a quick run down
Ordered a core and rebuilt it, works fine, then by accident pinched the return line, Blew tons of smoke and never stopped after removing the kink. Put seals on the shaft and still leaked. Got another core and put the seals and bearings (the same ones I just tried in the old turbo) in the "new" turbo and no smoking.Well, just took a couple minutes on on cold start to clear out smoke every time. Then flushed the oil out real good to get out the gas contaminated oil. But used 5w30 to do it. Drove to the house with the 5w30 in it and it smoked on decel the whole way. Changed the oil to 20w50 when i got home and now it does not smoke out the tail pipe but the oil inlet gaskets started leaking, replaced those and now oil is leakingfrom the turbine side past the housing/cartridge sealing surfaces, and you can see oil on the center section.
This sucks!!! So should I get a rebuild kit? If i tear it down and dont find any other problems? Or get yet another hx52 turbo? ugh!
