Is this turbo dead?

Hi guys,

Was going to have a machine shop machine the exhaust outlet flange on my Turbonetics t66 turbo because I cannot get rid of this exhaust leak I have between it and the Downpipe.

To my big surprise the exhaust wheel sits a bit off to the side, enough that it has started to cut into the housing. It doesn't catch on anywhere when turning by hand, and it does not make any wierd noises and there isn't much play in the shaft. Though, when flicking either the turbine or the compressor wheel, it rotates a few turns then comes to a stop, normal?

I've attached a few pictures to help visualize the potential problem.
The car pulls good, and the turbo is producing the 13psi it's set to. Though the pressure is not exactly steady, but quite erratic between 11-13 psi. Could be due to the exhaust leak, or maybe the turbos fault?

Is this turbo dead, or expect it to be dead anytime soon? What could have caused the turbine to shift that much to one side of the housing?

Thanks!

I would consider sending it off to a turbo shop like G pop or BNR and let them check it out, it's hard to say but I would expect the bearings to be bad if it's wore itself out that much, either it being out of balance caused that or that may cause it to go out of balance?

Took the turbo apart today. Actually it's the exhaust housing that's been deformed/cracked due to extensive heat/bad quality. Everything else seems fine. Problem now is to find an exhaust housing , as there are no retailers in Sweden.

Or I'll buy something with a higher quality, a exhaust housing should not warp!

Pic shows just some of the cracks, there are plenty more around the housing.

Never see that before.

that turbo doesn't look like it was ever built right, either it has always been sloppy or the cheap turbine housing allowed the wheel to wear out in the housing when it got cocked.

at any rate, ive never even seen such a thing even with chinese turbos.

Yes, I've never heard of a deformed turbine housing either. And the amounts of cracks are quite severe as well. Talked to somewhat of a turbo specialist, and he pretty much cringed when i told him about my problem.

In some miraculous way, it looks like the wheel has not been damaged. No nicks or marks really. Im looking into getting a new housing, and then changing to a BW EFR hopefully when winter comes. Its summer now, and i want to use the car

Only problem is finding the right A/R housing, and having to have it shipped to Sweden from the US, since no one sells parts for Turbonetics in Sweden...
