to4s question

What average rwhp can be expected from a To4s on a ported 3mm motor at say 14-15psi on 92-93 octane?? Is this turbo pretty responsive in the lower rpm range? I had an Apexi kit before but I am looking for a little more power but not much more lag. Most of my driving is done in the lower rpm range, 3500 or so, so I want a pretty responsive turbo when I nail it. I am looking for about 400rwhp. I want to stay ahead of all the fast *** cars coming out, like the new Cobra and the soon to be modified Evo8s' and Stis'.. Plus we have a ton of ZO6s' here in Minnesota, and apparently the hp ratings are going to get even higher in the next couple of years. I dont want some old man taking my 7...

You're looking at about 410-415 rwhp @15psi with a conservative tune.

depends on other mods too... I had a to4s and made full boost at 4-4.2k @ 14psi and made 425 to the wheels... talk about skipping a heart beat

depends on the motor and on tuning. I have a friend who made 415 rwhp on 91 octane gas boosting 1kg/cm2 tuned by XS engineering with a motor built by OSdesigns. He has the turbo with the smaller A/R rating of .80 instead of 1.00. With good tuning and a good motor you can expect up to 430-440rwhp.

On a side note, I have the apex'i kit right now and compared to my friends T04S, it outresponds it at every single rpm. If you do most of your driving at 3500, you might want to consider staying with the apex'i kit, at 3500 the T04s is just starting to get boost

I agree with 1Fookin. My RX6 kit delivers a tested 330 RWHP @ 11 psi and pulling between 11.1 and 12.2 AFR (not too aggressive but not overly conservative). Estimating 12 HP/psi of boost (and if I ever decide that I wanted to push the boost to 17psi), I should be putting down right at 400 RWHP. I get full boost by no later than 3200 RPM and smooth agressive responses right up to rev limits. If you are mostly worried about winning most street encounters and want a fast response daily driver, stay with the Apexi kit.

The TO4S is a nice street turbo. With 1.00 A/R exhaust side and a large side port, I tuned 15 psi to the tune of over 460 rwhp. This was on a customer's car. With the .84 A/R exhaust side you will see a less peak hp, and with a big port you run the chance of bogging down in the higher rpm's (over 8000). I also tuned a similar setup with the .84 housing and at the same boost he looses by about a car length at 400m.

Ya, www.xs-engineering.com

www.rx7store.net sells them at a discount.

I have the T04e kit, installes real nice. T04s is a little more expensive.

Check out the vendors section. Bi-State Customs makes that kit pretty cheap.

Check out the vendors section, Bi-State Customs makes kits for the 2nd gen too. If it's not listed them give them a call.

A T04S is the same as a Turbonetics 60-1 w/ A/R .70 compressor housing and a "P" trim exhaust wheel. Some of the parts aren't interchangeable but the compressor maps are identical.

Nice numbers. Was this on a streetport? Did your TO4S come w/ the normal thrust bearing, or was it a ball bearing?

Thanks for replying wonder1and. One more question. Does a twin ball bearing option exist for this turbo? And if so how much faster do you think this would spool up than a conventional bearing. Or what about single ball bearing?

thanks

BB is good for 200-350rpm sooner spool. The Tnetics ceramic single BB not recomended, so figure Innovative dual BB for a cool 1000.00 upcharge. For my money, I'd do ALOT of other things with my 1K.

Thanks for the reply Carl.

It is quite pricey for the upgrade. The increased spool isn't that great, but will make a slight difference I guess. But bigger ports would help the spool time too, will it not? Or is that a "fixed" number (200-350rpm)?

I'm just asking, because a TO4S seems like a nice street turbo, inexpensive. But who knows how much Innovative's TO4S Dual BB would come to.

But im talking out of my ***. It'll be awhile until I get a RX-7 lol. But atleast knowing what is good and what isn't ahead of time will decrease headaches and problems in the future when I actually get one
