To4B questions

I'm about to buy a Garret T04B turbo 60-1 comp and .96 hot side. I have a couple questions first though, should I just go with a oil feed, or get water cooled too?
Does the turbo get too hot if I only get oil feed? Also I was going to get a Tial wastegate, they have a 38mm and 40mm, but the 40 is almost twice the price, will the 38 work fine? I have a undivided stainless manifold, on a Turbo II motor with large street port.

Any help would be great.....

All turbos are oil fed, for lubrication purposes more than cooling I believe. The water cooled option (what I went with) is in addition to oil feed and is suppose to make the turbo more reliable (I have heard stories of the turbo lasting twice as long before a rebuild was needed).

I have heard nothing but good things about the Tial 38mm wastegate and since the TO4B isn't a larger turbo it should be sufficient for your car.

Water cooled centers were for idiots who didn't do proper cooling of the turbo - this was primarily for OEM cars.

I would highly recommend a larger wastegate, as the rotary engine pumps up a lot of exhaust power.  We're having problems with $1,000 Richard Lee 38mm wastegate that creeps in 3rd gear.  We usually run 46mm Tials (or HKS 50mm Race or 60mm GT) on big power rotary set-up's.  You cannot get cheap with these things...

I don't really see why something that is more reliable is for idiots. I would think, buying a water cooled center for better reliability would be a smart thing.

And how exactly do you do proper cooling for the turbo? Just curious because I don't know how you would cool a turbo any better than having a water cooled center section.

I also think one of the reasons they are on OEM turbos is for added reliability so people don't mess up their turbos in their new cars and make the dealership replace them on warranty.
