T78, T88 = Td0?

Hey fellas I've seen a bunch of conflicting information on the forum about what turbos the T78 and T88 actually are. Is a T78 a Td07 and a T88 is a TD08? Is that way off? I am really curious about this. Also if you know the different centimeters for each and maybe even the differences between a supra T78 and an rx7 T78. I'd love the answers to all this. basically everything you know about the 2 turbos. haha thanks guys

t78 has a td07 compressor housing with td08 turbine housing, whereas a t88 has a td08 on both sides

well they were either wrong or were building a t88. that's what the numbers stand for

Example: T88-34D
The first letter, "T" denotes it is a Turbo charger. The second number denotes the exhuast turbine base spec and the third letter denotes the compressor base spec (again, from an MHI TD-08).

In the second group of letters/numbers (34D) the first number denotes the exhaust turbine wheel base spec, in the above cases all T88's use a type 3 exhaust wheel.

The second number in the second group denotes the compressor wheel base spec, either a Type 4 or a Type 8

The letters that follow the second group of numbers denote the compressor housing spec. IE: Type D spec: Conventional trumpet, from 100mm reduced into 70mm. There is also a GK spec that uses recirculation ports.

So, T78-34D is a TD-07 exhaust base spec, with a TD-08 compressor base spec. Type 3 base sepc turbine wheel with type 4 base compressor in a D spec compressor housing.

So is the compressor wheel on the 88 the same as the 78? I would take a guess and say its not.

nope, it's slightly larger, but it's still within the same housing

The T78 is usually a 33D and not a 34D. I just tossed that out there. The T88 can be had as a 33D, 34D or 34GK. A T88-33D has the same compressor as a T78-33D. The 33D is a 66mm inducer, the 34D is a 69.7mm inducer and the GK is a 69.7mm inducer but uses a 100mm inlet with a ported shroud.

So can anyone tell me what size turbine housing would fit a TD07-8?
If it helps the part number is MEC73583 and the MFD. NO. is 49187-00280
I bought the turbo for $4 but it doens't have a turbine housing. There is still some life left and I would love to put it to use.

the td08 would be the actual exhaust housing for either turbo. you'll need to know what model though

The td08 will fit but I need to know what model? How do I find out what model? The turbo has the type, serial number, part number, and MFG number.
