T78 Oil problems, need some help from the pros

A few weeks ago I noticed that while sitting in traffic or just idleing in general that after a min of 2 my car will start blowing blue smoke out the back. I will take off and accelerate and it seems to stop smoking(or maybe the wind is just diluting it so I cant see it) But then when I come to a stop it wont do it for about 30 sec then it will start smoking again. I checked the oil and it was low so I topped it off on a fri night. Drove it pretty hard a few times fri and sat night messing with other cars then on the following tuesday the oil light came on and it was about out of oil. Using about 2 quarts of oil in a week seems like it is burning quite a bit. Right around the time I started noticing this I noticed that after driving if I looked under the hood there was a little bit of blue smoke coming from the turbo. And then I noticed a little bit of oil on the garrage floor when I pulled the car out. I am guessing that it is the oil return on the bottom leaking but havent had a chance to jack it up and check it out. I dont think that the smoking out the exaust pipe has anything to do with the oil on the floor or smoke from the turbo but I could be wrong. IT is a brand new motor and it didnt do this when I first put it back together or maybe I just didnt notice it because I had the main cat in for the first 2 or 3 weeks. I was thinking that it might be something going wrong with the oil injection system and it is just pumping too much oil in and causing it to smoke. Does anyone have any ideas???? Any info is welcomed. The car runs like a champ still but it is just a little embarasing to sit in traffic and all of a sudden this nice sports car starts smoking!!!! I think I will call the people who built the motor tommorow because it is still under warranty and see if they think it is anything major. But my first guess is the oil metering system. Is there any easy way to dissable it and just run premix for a tank of gas and see if that fixes the problem???

Check your oil return line on your turbo. If it is kinked it can cause pressure to build inside the turbo and oil to leak past all the seals.

Jonathan,

I always had a little bit of oil leaking from the oil return line. It's just so damn hard to get under the turbo to tighten down the clamp that held it onto the turbo. But it was always just a few drops under the car. I didn't have the smoke you are talking about.

But then again my TEC II didn't control the OMP so I ran pre-mix. I can't add any other suggestions that the guys didn't already cover.

Good luck and be careful... don't hurt your car man.
