T04R Finally installed!!!!

Woooo hooo

just picked up from KDR today, put 300 miles on her already.. even though im only on break-in, the racing wastegate is set for 1.2 bar (i gotta take out the springs, so its down to like .7) she builds around 1.1 bar (16 psi or so) at around 4k, she wants to pull like nobody's business. I can't wait to dyno!

In case you were wondering:

KDR Ported Motor (3mm)
HKS T04R kit
PFC + Datalogit
1600cc + K2RD Fuel Rail + SX Regulator
RD Tanabe RM CB
Resonated Mid-pipe
Greddy 3 Row FMIC
Tial BOV
HKS Racing Wastegate
R33 Fuel Pump
(I think thats it for the power part, although.. I might have forgotten something..)

I gotta pick up a HKS TwinPower, apparently I'm will be encountering breakup after 6k, so.. better have it than not!

If you want to know about the rest of the car, just gimme a shout.

Thanks! I can't wait either! I'll be bringing up some C16 with me, maybe make some runs at obscene boost levels for ***** and giggles.

How is your GT3540 goin? Btw, this turbo builds boost like Ihor's GT3540, i think I might have more topend though, I dont know yet. We'll have to see.
I think if I dont reach my target numbers, I may have to go with the 1.15 A/R It would slow down my spool, but I would get a significant boost increase. :O)

About your BOV works2r. Ihave basically the same set up as you and i get compressor surge with my tial BOV. The woob woob woob sound you hear when you let off. Are you experiencing compressor surge with you tial BOV? Is it adjustable? Can you change the spring to alter sensitivity of the BOV?

Sorry bout all the questions, people keep telling me the tial BOV is externally adjustable and i can't for the life of me see where.

thanks
tony

yeah i heard the T04R comes with there "cutback" version w/ .89 housing.. correct?

its weird that HKS "Clipped" the turbine and put a tiny housing on it..why wouldnt they just put a bigger A/R on it??? i guess they might be thinking you could fast spool up with a .89 A/R and clip the wheel (less backpressure across the wheel) and get good top end...???

who knows...anyone have any ideas on this?

Re: Re: Re: Re: T04R Finally installed!!!!

In theory by clipping the wheel will produce the same effect as having a larger A/R housing. From what I understand based on talking to some of the turbo builders, they said clipping the wheel by 10 degrees in a .96 housing will have the same effect as having a 1.05 A/R and by clipping it to 15 degrees, it will have the same effect as 1.15 A/R.

Yes, theoretically, that is exactly what would occur, due to the way the turbine spins.

Yes its some special cut-back with a .84 though, not split (although according the HKS Master Goods, the .84 comes only in Twin Chamber) There is some other special cut-back with a .96 (which is the Supra one, but its only special order only) I might consider trying to get the 1.05 or the .96 or the 1.15 A/R just to see how much more power one can get up high.. but right now it seems to spool pretty expediously with an endless pull.

i have a T04r on my Series 5 motor with a 1.15 a/r on the exhaust. i also have a few other goodies like a lightened wheel and a few others, but i can build .5 bar in 5th gear at 65 so that is like 2700rpm. I am also running the HKS standard wastegate(10psi spring). full boost is around 4k-4500. i was hesitant to go with the 1.15, but i am now glad that i did because i have a stock ported motor and when i decide to go bigger and better i wont need a bigger turbo, and i will have gobbs of top end.

my .02

Yes you can get a softer spring for the TIAL BOV. I don't of any adjustments on them, but I don't own & operate one. Just have a friend witha TIAL & he bought a softer spring to alleviate comp. surge.
