Stock 5 spd transmissions Maximum hp?
Stock 5 spd transmissions Maximum hp?
I was wondering what stock 5 transmission will hold before it breaks? I've heard rumors that it breaks at 650-750rwhp? Is there anyone making more on the stock 5 speed?
It depends on the condition of the transmission, how the car is driven, and if the car has traction.
At those power levels it would be best to swap in something along the lines of a T56..

there are a lot of VERY fast cars that used the stock tranny, but it would only last a few passes before a new one was needed.
i would go with a t56
or even better a richmond 5 or 6 speed, when new, the 6 speed is a few hundred cheaper, and the 5 speed is about 1000 cheaper than a t56

This statement makes me feel good about my setup. My trans is the only stock thing in my drivetrain and by the looks, it will be fine for 10 second passes with 500rwhp.

I have seen 680whp on a stock tranny. Power shifting will shorten the life very fast. Mine has only 429whp and when hot I get trouble to shift into fiifth and reverse. I will say 600whp with a good clutch and easy shifting will be the limit
