Smaller A/R for GT 35/40

I am very close to having all the money to finally go single and as I was talking to Skip at KD rotary about how I am interested in the GT35/40 kit cause of it's quick response, he said that they have done a couple of RX7's with a the GT35/40 but with a smaller A/R ratio (I think he said like .84 A/R) and the response is just awesome. He said it responds even quicker than the stock twins on and is pretty nice up top also. I was wondering if anyone here has one of those cars or knows anyone that has one set up like that and could give me some feedback. Thanks, Jerry

Heard about it somewhere on this forum I believe...I think it was one of our Aussie buddies, the guy said it was like a V8 in its response so that you would just spin tires whenevre you floored the gas, sounded nice to me.

Bump to anyone with definate insight....

Thanks for the tip Zero R, I looked at some of Ralimike's post to see what kind of results he has gotten and I sent him a private message. I'm one of those people searching for that really quick spool and around 350rwhp for the street and maybe some autocross. Thanks, Jerry00

How easy is it to just switch the exhaust housing to have the one AR for daily street driving and the other for track or something?

Sorry noob question perhaps...Sean, If they are interchangable easily, what would be the price for just another exhaust side and would it still fit on the aspec kit I am getting?

Thanks
Bob

Get the larger a/r. Response is quick enough. Otherwise you will lose too much top end.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I'm really not looking for much more than around 350rwhp and I don't want to run any more than 14psi. So I was thinking the smaller one might fit me better. Plus the more low end the better, I figure since I don't really drag race anymore. Probably will wind up getting the bigger one though cause I would hate to choke out at the top. Have about 2 weeks to decide. Thanks

The smaller one is too small for most you will get thepower levels you are asking for but you will choke it up on the top end, and yes you can switch out the the housings if you wanted, though it wouldn't be a quick thing.

Cool, thanks for the info Sean, thats what I was waiting for, very appreciated. I am definately going with the larger A/R at first...If I win some good money at AC in the future maybe I'll get the smaller housing just for ***** and giggles

I know someone that has the .84 exhaust housing on a 35/40. The car made 340rwhp on a dyno dynamics dyno on 16 psi. It does run out of puff above 6500 rpm though. The car in question has custom fmic, 3 inch exhaust, microtech ecu ect...

The spool is great though.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I'm probably going to go with the larger A/R, cause I would hate to spend all the money and have the motor feel restricted up top. Would probably make you not want to rev it that much, and it's fun to take up to 8000 RPM.

Sorry to be late with my reply. My car dynoed 327 (I think). It has better response down low than the original twins, and I must be real careful to gradually feed the gas, or I get major wheelspin in 1st and 2nd. The car does not feel choked at higher rpms-it accelerates strongly to 7500. I am very happy with my setup, and wouldn't trade the throttle response for more high end HP. To each his own...

A scan of the dyno sheet would be nice for prying eyes and inquisitive minds. Where do you see initial boost onset/full boost RPM and at what boost level did you put down 330-ish RWHP?

Also, what size/type tires are you using?

TIA,
