single turbo tuning help

I know this should technically be in the EMS section, but I don't really feel that that section gets enough views, and since I have a single turbo I think it qualifies for this.

As many of you know, I finished my fuel system and meth system projects and was going to get tuned at PF Supercars today. I live in NY and installed a Greddy TT Kit on my friends 350z, and he drives a flatbed, so he was going to take both cars to PFS to get tuned. monday night before he leaves at like 2 in the morning he says he cant get my car on the truck because its too low. Maybe he could have checked that before I spent tons of time on his car. But anyway, his car went down and got tuned yesterday and mine stayed. I couldn't drive it down because I started a new job yesterday.

When trying to reschedule, PFS is busy until 2nd week of may. I can't have my car sitting in a garage for 6 weeks, especially now that its done and it sits for the winter every year anyway. This is precious driving time. I have a TEC GT system, meth injection, Greddy T78, and tons of other upgrades to support 600hp. Can anyone else tune this for me? I don't really know any other tuners that deal with the TEC systems beside AnthonyNYC who tunes his own car. I may have to call him up, but wanted to know if there were any other tuners around.

Thanks,
-Collin

you can get plenty of general tuning advice here about target AFR's under certain conditions (WOT, idle, cruising) and timing numbers to run. but the TEC GT is pretty uncommon so you won't find many people with hands-on experience. it's kind of the same thing I ran into with Megasquirt.

Still searching for a tuner. I've talked to a few people and have now run into a discrepancy regarding the turbo and estimated power capabilities.

I've got the greddy T78, on a streetported REW. 1250ml/min worth of pure meth injection and 1680cc secondaries and 720cc primaries. the fuel pump is more than adequate.

What kind of power can I expect? 1 guy said not much over 500 on pump and meth.

1 said 600 is doable with meth. This is getting to the more risky hp levels, but what have other people experienced? hp and psi on something similar to a T78 with meth please.

I'd really love to hit 600, but what psi would be required? I'm not sure what other upgrades i can do, besides porting the engine more or switching turbos (which I won't be doing anytime soon)

Hey Collin. We talked a few times on PMs etc but even though I tune my car I'm not a "tuner" That's why I kinda hinted I could easily teach you around the TEC unit since I learned from Dee and Russ but I understand your concerns. I thought about it some more and you are better off going to a shop. Tony does know the ECU well and helps me with my car. If there is no way to get it to PFS then I guess that is a 2nd option.

As for 600HP, I do not think a T78 will get you there. I have the larger T88 and it struggles to get to 600HP and if it does, you will be at 35psi. Look up Dan Schecter, he had a modified T88 and the best HP he got was around 630@38psi.

I know the T78 will get you in the area of 550-575 on gas alone. If you throw the meth into the mix with C16 then you will make more. When you add meth, you need to lean out the tune to compensate so if the meth fails for any reason, that motor is toast.

Why are you set on 600? Just curious...

Anthony

well i'm sure i'll be flamed for this. but it seems like everyone is getting into the 500 range, and i wanted mine to be a little more rare. but I'm not really set on it, if its not going to be reliable then I'll lower my expectations a bit. I'm sure 500 will be more than I can put to use anyway.

I've spoken to Tony and T&R (NY), Enzo at Enzo Racing (NY), and Bob at Victor Research (CT), I also have a call out to KDR (PA).

I've heard a few things about T&R that I'm curious about but I'll send you a PM about that.

What can the T78 do at 25psi with meth and adequate fuel? I know thats a big number, but i feel that higher than that would be more unreliable. But thats probably just some kind of personal stigma haha.

Now I just have to figure out who will be best haha.

After speaking to a bunch of the tuners again today, it seems like everyone is weary when it comes to going for 500whp. Why is this? I know its getting to the upper limits but there are quite a few people with over 600 now. I'll have 93 octane pump gas and 1250ml/min worth of meth, from what I've read on the AI section of the forum I should be pretty much set.

I can understand that there is really no room for error at this level, especially if the meth cuts out. But I honestly don't know what else I can do to the car to make it hit 500 easier short of a new turbo and a half bridge engine. Whats the deal?

I just spoke with Dave at KDR, definitely left a good first impression. He can squeeze me in soon, and we went through my whole setup, from what I can tell, he was very honest and let me know of a few of his concerns but definitely was not trying to sell me on getting a few other parts from him. The tuners listed above did not try to do that either, but I've run into ones that have before.

The only problem is that he doesn't have dual EGT sensors/gauges there. I have bungs in my header, one for each rotor, but did not install sensors or gauges as I really only wanted it for tuning. I know this is asking a lot, but is there anyone around that has one I could rent for a week? I just don't want to pay 200-300 for something that won't do me much good besides tuning.

If you would consider this and are somewhere between CT and PA, or could get it to KDR on Monday please pm me and let me know how much you want to be compesated for, and if you are worried about getting it back, I don't mind paying you what you paid for it new as a deposit and then being refunded a portion upon the return of the properly working equipment.

Thanks,
-Collin
