Single Turbo Setup...
ok well i understand 100% this doesnt belong here but i cant find anywhere else where they will reply... neways i have a 1957 chevy wagon brand new motor 350 chevy 4 bolt main vortec heads hooker shorty exhaust and alot of other crap neways the motor produces about 400hp but i want to make it turbocharged and i know how turbo and everything but was wondering on what your inputs are on this.. like what turbo should i get thats my main thing but mainly just what you guys think..
*NOTE* the passenger light has an air ducting for back then that was the A/C so i was going to use that as a cold air intake neways here are some pics...
Another thing the car is VERY dirty but i plan to put the turbo on the left side of course =P...
Thanks Appreciate It..

Don't put 1 turbo on it. Put 1 smaller one on each side. Depending on how much power you want. Perhaps twin t04e's.
This would make the exhaust work much easier. But of course, it is more expensive, because now there are 2 turbo's and wastegates.
You definitely need to read up on the subject, because it is probably more to it than you think.

Dude I'm telling you, get the book before you do any custom turbo setup. It's not exactly something we can explain to you in a post on here.

corky's book is really good, you may also want to talk to the guys at "headers by ed" Rxmidget just made me a single turbo set up and we learned allot from corky and headers by ed.
You need to consider things like the diameter + length of your headers, where you want the power low rmp vs. high, how much boost your going to run, how high your engine rev's, etc. Read up before you start buying stuff.

nice fabrication there mkoch1 very nice.. well im looking for really about 6 to 7 psi of boost not alot single turbo i cant fit 2 the motor has VERY nice acceleration accept when reaching higher speeds you lose some of that power so i would want more the turbo for higher rpms i have a rev limiter at 8k rpm right now with an MSD setup....

very nice work there mkoch1 very nice.... well im looking for about 6 to 7 psi of boost and the car has great acceleration but loser power at top end speed so i would need something that starts boost at around 3.5k to 4k rpm and the motor can rev to about 8 and i have a rev limiter at 8k with an MSD box i could i always bring down the rev limiter by buying the chips so what you think?

correction the motor can rev up to 6.5k rpm the reason theres an 8k rev limiter is so motor will make as much power b4 rev limiter stops it..

My suggestion is still to read corky bell's book, you will learn alot about turbo charging. Then I would talk to the guys at headers by ed They charge 50 dollars for the header spec service, but if you buy the piping from them you get most of it credited back. I would start there, once you know how long the headers need to by you can figure out if you have room for one turbo or 2.

Import Connoisseur
I think if the car is 400hp outta the box you have to do more then just add a few turbos. Don't the pistons have to be different to support the boost? compression etc?

hmm well find out your compression ratio...then once you know that we can tell you what to do...for a turbocharged vehicle you generally want lower compression...lik 9:1 or lower well i bet that v8 has like 11:1 compression or somewhere around that...hmm and tunning is going to be a royal bitch with a carburator ...its going to take many hours and lots of money but it would be cool to see...well get that book and read about it...we cant type enough on this forum to help you understand what needs to be done...peace out and good luck

you could probably get away with low boost (5-7 psi) as long as compression is below 11:1, I have seen motors like yours with 13:1 compression, so you better double check first.

Thanks For The Host Bro! if im correct the motor has about 10 to 1 compression but i found out i can lower it by utting thicker head gaskets and the carb tuning i can do myself have been around chevys for a LONG time...
