I dont get what the big deal is. I avoid rain as much as possible but have been caught a few times. Two summers ago I was even at an hpde and two of the sessions ended up getting rained on. Still ran the sessions, just had to drive easy and leave yourself a larger margin for error. The car handled just fine and was totally predictable. Having good tires is a must, they can make or break a car.
it rarely rains here but lately the monsoon has been quite unpredictable. daily drive the FD, no serious issues. i'm at about 270whp and on stock width BFG G-force tires. the real danger here is everyone else, NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE IN THE RAIN. they all go like 25mph on the freeway. so stupid. the other day there was a 30 car pile up on I-10. this is why i only go out at night, all idiots are in bed.

same, I merge left into the HOV lane and just fly past these morons being mindful of standing water (they don't know how to design decent road surfaces here)
I was running a weld diff and the rain it was not too bad but in the snow was hell. I used to "barrow" my neighbors newspapers to get going. Reverse was the best way to more in a parking lot. To slow down on the highway I would keep my foot on the gas and load the e-brake to keep from spinning. Any weight shift to the front and it got squirly. Michigan sucks *****, but at least there are no inspections.
I'm guessing the hotside is probably grey cast iron...same as a frying pan.
What happens when you put water into a hot frying pan? Latent frost effect! The water vaporizes and water droplets skip around the pan on a layer of water vapor. The pan never gets wet! And your hotside is much hotter than this!
If you beat it with a hammer, you could crack it, but i'd say it's damn near impossible for it to happen from water.

I just stay out of boost/don't boost much...light throttle, shift before 4k. Seems to work for me. But yeah...the minute the boost builds up and my foot is down that's another story.
I avoid it at all costs, and as stated if there's any chance of rain just drive the DD.
However, I have gotten caught a few times...Just take it easy and respect the weather. Stay out of boost as much as possible, and don't go flying down the interstate if you have wide tires.
I'm running 285 Nitto NT 555Rs, and have hydroplaned a few times at highway speeds. Pretty scary to say the least, but they seem to be ok for the *most* part. :P
