Single Turbo Kit Question

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33742

I just had a turbo go out on me and was wondering about a single swap since i need something new. Would this be a good setup for me? Also, how much is it to have a single swap done by a shop if you have the kit and how much work is involved?
thanks in advance

Labor ALONE no parts, nothing but the labor is going to be around $800-1000.

You will need ALOT more than just the turbo kit to go single though.

call a rotary specialist in your area for a price. you can find one in the regional forums. there are a few good guys in your neck of the woods. get some sample parts prices at rx7store.net and read the stickies on the forum. lots of good info in there for those who aren't too lazy to read them.

I would atleast the same amount. Maybe more if you want to stay sequential and have the shop deal with the ratsnest and all that.

If they're for real, then the buy it now price is insane. Buying anywhere else you will be looking at over $2k more than what they want.

Honestly, it looks kind of suspicious, but the seller rating is good so who knows.

If you have all the other stuff needed to go single then I would give it a look at trying.

Its not suspious, it is the OBX/SS Autochrome ebay setup. They sell there manifolds for $125. Read the reviews on the forum about them?

The Wastegate is a knockoff, that sells for about a $100 on ebay. And, I would guess that the rest of the money is tied to the turbo.

I don't know that it is worth it to try and do something like this on the cheap.

If you got a $5 dollar head get a $5 dollar helmet.

Don't Do It!

Here is some very important info!

First of all, the turbo is NOT a 60-1 (T04S)!!! If you look closely at it, and other offerings from ssautochrome, the turbo is really a "T04 (S)". By this, they mean a T04B S-trim wheel. A 60-1 (real T04S), has 7-paired blades on the compressor wheel. All T04B's have 8-paired blades.

You can buy T04B's with S-trim wheels for ~$400 (maybe a little less). That, however, is not what is so bad. Besides the fact that it's false advertisement (according to general public knowledge that a real T04S has a 60-1 wheel which measures 2.324"inducer and 3.000" exducer), that turbo that is actually in the kit is no good for anything more than 300rwhp. Even at 300rwhp, it is pushing the turbo a little on rotaries. Don't believe me, check out the compressor map:

http://64.225.76.178/catalog/compmaps/fig6.html

Also, the wastegate is a cheap re-make of the HKS unit. Quality is unknown as to whether it is able to take the heat from the exhaust of a rotary.

All in all, the major parts of that turbo kit may not be suitable to our cars. I would strongly recommend against it!
