single turbo how big is to big for a street car

the frank turbo is no good in what ive seen they use this turbo on awd talon no body goes is fast with them as thay do the 20g.not to many peaple like them.

Ported Motor and T-04S. Good for 450+ with quick spool. Gotta love Ball bearing designs. Quicker spool and still High HP output. Its also about A/R's Check with XS engineering about getting something that will meet your needs.

ya looks like the t 78 is the one but i think may be the t88 with some nos in 3rd might be fun.

If you have a good exhaust port the T-88 should spool pretty well. RX794 had one with a street port, and he said the lag wasn't too bad.

is anyone running a t-78 w/ a street ported motor that is emissions legal like the one in Turbo magazine? I would like to know any details because i want to swap. I live in DE so I have emissions testing like every 2 years, and i really do not want to swap all that stuff back and forth every 2 years.

No such thing as too big brotha..i have a t78 and i love it on the street and track or wherever..the only people whop talk **** on them are the guys who dotn have them..im not knockinany other turbos butits normally the guys that still have the stock ones and cant afford the big bobos that knock em..just my input

What I want to know is how RICE is getting 500 some odd HP out of a T04B... I have heard all the people that say bigger is better and then they give some cockamamy story about how you get more power with less boost but I just don't quite understand how that is. If you are not beyond the efficiency level of the turbo so the turbo is not working so hard that it is superheating the air, then what is the bennifit? How much air can you pump through a 2 rotor engine? A T66 is rated at 72lbs a minute. What does that equate to in HP and who is actually pushing that much? Yet we have plenty of people that are running much bigger turbos and still only getting in the low 400RWHP range. This I do not understand.

Its all based on the tuning and how much hp they are shooting for.. You can have a t-78 and still only have 400 or so hp if you dont turn up the boost 2 a decent level. Some just go 2 a bigger turbo so they can get just where the stockers max out and run low boost for realiablity reasons. just my .02 worth..

Yeah, I am not trying to flame the big turbo guys, I will most likely end up there myself, it seems almost inevitable. You get used to a cetain level and then it just seems like you need more. And I know he is talking in BHP, but that is still alot from a T04B in any trim, and close or better to what some of the big turbo guys are putting out. XS says they can sqeeze out 400RWHP out of thier t04E kit, and carcrazy can attest to that. So then there are these guys running much bigger turbos but still not much more power, at least not comparable in relation to the size difference in the turbo. You have a car with a turbo that can deliver twice as much air but only a 20% gain in HP. Now I also know there are exceptions but these are guys that are pushing 35 to 30psi or more. Which leads me to my next statement... what good is a big turbo if you aren't going to use it?

Machinehead i know what your talking about.. Truth is i dont like the greddy kits so whoever wants to flame me go ahead.> But i think those kits are a waste of money. And i've seen plenty of to4's make some serious power(~700hp) on certain cars.

What i would recommend if you really want to make power and keep it streetable is to get a garrett turbo(T45). It will outflow the T66 by 30% and it's in a t04 housing not the big Turbonetic T series.

I'll agree that the price for the T-78 kit is kind of high, but it IS one of the better kits out there. The manifold is well made. The turbo itself is very good, and can be had for only $1300. I think that the TD06 kits aren't worth getting.

enzo. I think everbody including me agrees that those are nice turbos (GT45), but it seems that nobody has them... exept for those Austrailian guys... what's up with that?!!!

Hey machinehead. My good friend just got a serious connection to get those turbos. Or any garrett turbo! We would always get turbonetics because we could never get garrett but now we have the source. And the pricing is not bad either. Im going to get one after the holidays and if anyone is interested i could get a few of these if you guys want, we could probably get a better deal that way.

I am pretty new to rotaries....I am very close to purchasing an RX7 with a T88 Greddy turbo......but he mentioned he has a "bridgeport" done on it....along with all the goodies...I am still trying to understand if this "bridge"port is possible and if the Apex seals he has would stand the power and boost.....what do you guys think?

Lag issue

I'm running T60-1. LOVE IT. I get 430+ with the cat in and off pump gas. If you remove the cat though, the lag is virtually gone. How it helps I'd love someone to explain to me, but it does! Anyway, I also run water sprayers to my intercooler, you guys wouldn't believe how much that helps. Hell, I just fill the reservoir with crushed ice and turn on the sprayers when I want to get on it.

I posted this on another thread, but thought I might try my luck here. I'm new so don't flame me, What about running a larger turbo (T-78, 88) with a smaller helper turbo to help the lag? Would this set up be pratical, if even possible? What type of things would be needed in order to complete this set up?

Here's a good explanation on bridge porting: http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/portbp.htm . It makes good power, but reliability can be an issue. Where is the car? Somebody here may be familiar with it.

I'm running a stage 2 street port. Personally, having driven many other single turbo rx7s, I think I've got the best possible setup for street only driving. the turbo comes on at about 2k, and is fully boosted at around 4-5k (temperature dependent). And let me tell ya, at 22 psi (this is without the cat and some octane boost) you'd better be paying attention. It's quick, it's efficient, idles nice, and SPANKS vettes.
