Single Turbo Engine Life

I was wondering how long some of your engines have lasted with single turbos. How many miles? I have the money to go single but i dont have the money to keep rebuilding and rebuilding. Thanks

It depends on so many factor how long the motor will last. If you drive hard, things break! But there are alot of single turbos going strong out there. I am sure some of the single guy with give you some hard mileage numbers. I just went single, and glad I did!

singles can last longer than twins just from the stand point that it is not as hot, less hoses all over the place, etc. Once you take that from the stock boost levels (~10psi) then you start wearing stuff out quicker. It all depends on your tuning too. If it is done correctly (read: safely) then you should be ok. Another issue is porting. The more aggressive the port, the shorter the engine life - typically. Most single guys port their motors to get the full benefit of the turbo.

What usually breaks the most? If my car was tuned right with a pineapple ssp and a gt35/40, roughly how many miles would it last?

I would say longer than a stock engine with stock twins running 15psi boost.

It all depends on how you use or abuse it.

You do 20K of standard driving, or 20K of dyno runs and 1/4 mile runs, that might influence your results.

daily driver= bad idea, only if its your only tranportation. Im going through this right now and its very tuff. I drive a mini-van when I get the chance, to class and back, to party's, and to work.
Its usually other things that go out and cuase your engine to blow. Bad gas, main coil not firing, oil pan nut falling off(somebody had this problem on the fourum), or just a shity ******* engine builder( thanks to hayes )
anywhere from 1-15k if your lucky enough. I was thinking about going full bridge-port becuase my motors dont seem to last over 10k miles..

Red I am not sure what you are doing to your car and what your setup is, but a single turbo can be a great everyday car. I have a T78 and i drive it for 7 months of the year and don't have any problems. It sounds like you haven't tuned it right or you aren't getting enoigh fuel. I believe that having a single turbo was the best thing that i ever did.

How many miles do you get to a tank? I got somewhere around 250 when stock. I dont know if i am going to keep my car much longer. I cant afford it right now, but when i can i will get another one.

The last rx7 i had, I bought it with a rebuilt motor. And i gave that bitch pure hell, and never had one single problem out of it. That was a long time ago. I sold that car and got this one and It has 44000 miles on factory motor and it popped and i never drove it that hard. These cars **** me off, but i still love them some how!
