Single Turbo daily driven RX7!

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the RX7 forum.. I am relatively new to the RX7 world, my friend has one so i have learned alot from him, but the extent of my knowledge is pretty limited..

I want to buy an RX7 and i found one that i can afford that is already single turbo.. when i say afford i mean i can purchase the car, im not sure right now if i am gonna be able to afford to "own" the car if u know what i mean..

so anyways i was thinken if i got the car and i put a haltech in and got it all tuned do u guys think it would be a bad car as a daily driver? once u go single u solve the 150+ hose problem right? and the lean/rich A/f ratios can be solved w/ the haltech.. all else i would have to worry about is cooling issues right?

Other factors you must consdier are miles on the engine (original, rebuilt, or new engine altogether), miles on the chassis, was it always properly cooled, have all the recalls been done, does it have the relaibility mods, what psi was it run at, and has teh tranny synchro problem been fixed? Since it has a Single on it, it's pretty well guaranteed to have been raced or driven hard, so check it out, but a daily driven single with the boost turned down isn't so bad, you sjut might hate that laggy feeling, while riding around, but that'll all change once you hit boost and it all opens up. Also the amount of miles on all the mods is important too.

FD shoppin (I know I don't own one, but I knwo plenty I've been here long enough and read just about everythingthis site has to say, and I believe the rotary can be a reliable engine when done right)

That's the short version.
Just make sure that it is tuned correctly and that you don't get carried away with the boost if you don't have the octane for it.

I drive my single turbo everyday... the only thing that bothers me is my stiff *** clutch when I am stuck in traffic.

i left a few things out, but the RX7 i am considering buying has a blown motor.. its this guys project/weekend car, hes tired of it i guess and just wants to get rid of it... I would be putting a new motor in it, maybe Ari's street port engine if i can have the $$$..

i dont mind the lag issue for the singleT.. as long as i can catch up to traffic fine i will be fine.. i would be happy to trade power in the sweet spot for low end power.. and compared to what im driving now im sure its not that slow when u r not boosting..

my friends RX7 constantly has problems w/ over heating/coolant leaks and his 3rd gear is a biotch.. are these really common problems?

My T-78 is daily driven, and lag is NOT an issue. The turbo doesn't really come on until 3500-4000 rpm, but, you'd never notice it not being there. There's plenty of power for traffic. Spooling is only a problem when racing (which anyone with a single turbo and half a brain doesn't do in traffic (not to say it's not done on the street, just not in traffic)), and, it's not really even a problem then if you know what you're doing.

It call comes down to the bottom line. What other mods does it have, what mileage and will Ari hook you up with a good deal on the new/rebuilt motor? I drive a daily driven single turbo and it is just fine. Just make sure you have enough fuel. I am sure the guys at RP will take care of you - they have yet to steer me in the wrong direction! Ive been going there for about 4 years now and I have no complaints. As I said, it all comes down to the $$$$.

The haltec is cool if you have the $ and know someone who's good with them, but I think the power FC is cheaper and easier to play with and runs the car smoother IMHO. Just tune the PFC and a boost controller with some bigger injectors all around, fuel pump, etc. and it'll be a damn nice street car...

What can I expect???????

http://www.se-rx7.com/images/hpcurves1.gif

In this dyno chart my car is the MYT04E.

It is an estimate.

My XS-Engineering T04e kit should be coming soon.

My question is the dyno chart for my configuration going to be fairly acurate. XS is supposedly custom building my kit to my mods. I really don't know what that might be. I'm not a techy on this subject. Maybe one of you might know?

These are my mods:

Ken
'94 white, base, pep, red leather,
mods: Hayes street port & polished stage II, 3mm seals, T04e single turbo kit, Aquamist 2s water injection kit, Pettit ss resonated mid-pipe, Pettit ss cat-back, RP Racing fuel pump, IC upgrade(Maybe), 1200cc injectors, Profec B, Centerforce clutch, under pulley kit(no air pump), Pettit short shifter kit, boost gauge, PFS PMC (10-psi, 15psi)

We need to know a bit more info than that in order to advise you on injectors etc.

Also, i think you should start a new thread for this coz people will never see it....
