Not likely. Even if it passes the sniffer (questionable, but not impossible), you will fail the visual inspection.

If you have to pass smog, you have 2 options, install all of the factory stuff or find someone that will do it illegaly...that'll cost you about $100 if you can find someone.

look at the new turbo magazine with the supra on the cover. They have an article on one of RP's customers with a t78 passing smog.

What state was the T74 passing emissions in? If it was California, that is an AMAZING feat.

Just give your mechanic a really nice tip. $$$ and he will give you an inspection sticker

Oh, yeah, Texas. The state that our wonderful President is from? Of course you can pass the smog test in his home state. What about California?

I think the tip thing works the best.

Wait! Most of the idiots I see running the smog tests are clueless when it comes to cars...makes me wonder how they ever qualified to become smog testers. But anyways, with my turbo-ed Prelude, they didn't even flinch when they opened the hood. His comment was.."nice chrome stuff in there". And it was funny, they said that my car was a "lowrider" since it barely cleared the entrance ramp. I had to back in thru the front! HaHaHa! But I convinced them to run it on the rollers anyways. Passed without any trouble.

So how can they tell that the single turbo wasn't how it came from the factory? Do they have RX-7 rotary specific smog testers now? :p

I don't know about the smog guys in your area, but I can have a hamster wheel in my FD and they wouldn't even think twice.

Single turbo RX-7 + main cat + GM electric airpump + working air control valve = passes idle smog test (and with tuning, limited boost = passes dyno)

Fails visual, but you can find a Jiffy Lube that will ignore what is under the hood, can't you?

In my TT RX-7 - non-working airpump = no passing idle - driving by an inspection station would make me fail....after fixing airpump, idle mix went down, but not enough. I think my coolant sensor is dead (the one for the stock temp gauge is WAY LOW - why not the other one for the ECU?)

Move to state with a dyno only test, get and Audi A8 and tune the hell out of it so it will kill AMG/Renntech MB's - they (A8's) are exempt from dyno testing (AWD)

:-)

at my job i have access to a new jersey state inspection machine with dyno. in the vehicle data you have to enter vehicle make and ignition setup which they list rotary in there own category, so yes in the state of new jersey they have the machines setup for rotary powered vehicles. when i went through inspection in march i passed with flying colors ,but that's with restrictive exhaust, air pump, cats and primary turbo working only!
