Sick of searching......FMIC question
What a buzz kill! I was all excited because I've almost got everything I need to complete my project for the summer, but now I was just toldthat the FMIC I have won't be good enough.
I'm looking for 400-450RWHP. My pipe dream is to break into the 11s by the end of the summer, and when I say 11s I really mean 11.9999999.......... Anyway, I just received my GReddy 2 row spec V FMIC. I have a TD07 25G Turbo right now, but I'm also looking at picking up a T78 instead. I've just been informed that the 2 row spec V is only good upto 400hp, but I can't find any threads in my search that says if that is true or not. I'd like to use this if I can, but not at the expense of my engine. If u guys think the 3 row would be better, then the FMIC is up for sale in the Canadian forum.
Thanks 4 u're 2 cents

someone probably read something...somewhere...internet people repeating marketing crap...
the intercooler only cools the air...the smaller the turbo you try to use to push the large amounts of air flow (i.e. more boost)...the hotter the air will be. Big turbo (like T78) vs. the 25g you currently have...and try to run the same amount of airflow to get 400 hp...the 25g will run hotter and to cool the air temps back down to avoid detonation...you will need a bigger intercooler. But if you go to a bigger turbo (more efficent at high air flow ratios)...your air temps coming out of the turbo will be lower...thus reducing the need for a gigantic intercooler.
Also by making sure ALL the air going into the vent goes across the intercooler...will DRAMATICALLY increase the cooling efficency of the intercooler. Going from a standard "install" of a greddy 2 row...to a completely ducted setup...I would bet you would gain the same amount of cooling as going to a 3 row.
yes, the pressure drop will increase as you push more air through it...but I have a greddy 2 row IC...and from the design...I can tell you it isn't going to hit a brick wall at 400 hp of air flow and then become such a restriction that it will hold you back.
the "figure" or "cap" people talk about is total crap. some marketing genuis heard the engineering guys talking about some of these issues and thought to themselves...well...there are people that want to go really big and don't really care what it will cost or understand the finer details...lets tell them our huge "entry level" intercooler is only good for 350-400 hp...but if you want to go really big...you need to buy our $$$ intercooler.
I'm not saying the $$$ intercooler isn't better than the 2-row...I'm just saying that the 2-row is not bad and should not "block" you from reaching your goal of 400 hp.

Thats a relief.......is there anyone here that has managed to break the 11s plateau? What kind of weight reduction do u guys have as well as HP numbers. I'm pretty sure that 11s won't be within my grasp with my planned setup, but I think its safe to say that I should be able to hit mid to low 12s. What do you guys think?

So it looks like your not selling it..
there are guys that have hit 11.7 with 335 whp
ITs all about your setup, and if you cant put the power to the ground.
Ive seen some people using the 2 rows for over 400whp applications, and they work fine.
Over/around 500whp, I would upgrade the intercooler.
