hey guys im in the market for a single kit and im stuck between the 2 turbos stated above. im not shooting for high hp set up. 380-430 would be perfect. fast spool but i dont want it to choke up top, which is my concern with the rx6 so owners please chime in. thanks guys!

 

also the car is primarily street driven and will only see a track once to see what times it can run.

 

I only know about the GT series, i run a GT42 and a local guy runs A GT35R, he makes 400 on a mustang dyno and 440 on a dynojet at 14-15psi, he has a big port on his engine. I think he said he gets full boost in the 3400 range, but that is partly due to the port.

 

thats exactly where i want to be powerwise. now im just not sure how the two compare with spool. ive heard people say they cant tell the difference in spooltime between the rx6 and stock twins which is the huge turn on for me about that turbo. i loved my twins but hated dealing with them.

 

One other thing to consider when considering which route to go is how much is it going to cost to rebuild the turbo when it comes time for it.

Currently the Garrett turbos are popular so you should be able to have available parts for the forseeable(sp?) future. The Apex'i, as far as I know, can't be rebuilt and the purchase price of the turbo(if you can find it) is over $3,000.

Hopefully you'll never have to rebuild but there's a good chance you will in the future.

We built an FD with a special streetport which helps bottem end spool and power with an RX6 on it. It works very nice, comes on hard around 3000rpm. We are only running it at 12-14 psi and it roughly makes 400whp. It pulls right to 8000rpm

 

yes thats another thing ive been weary about. the rx6 turbo alone is 2,000 from rx7store. i plan on buy a lightly used turbo so finding the right rx6 is going to be tough. what does the upper rpms feel like with the rx6, R.P.M ?

 

Pretty decent, I dont like holding it wide open too long because of the LOUD external wastegate lol. But I'd say it doesn't run out of steam up top.

I didn't realize the turbo cost that much. The 35R is much cheaper.

Does Apexi still make the RX6 kit?

 

My GT35R on a Turbo II makes about 400 rwhp at 15psi
My friend's Apexi RX6 makes about 350 rwhp at the same boost. He comes in earlier than I do, but up high I make a lot more power. The hotside on the RX-6 is pretty small and starts to choke out the rotary up high. He got a deal on the Apexi kit and I bought the A-spec kit so we spent about the same money and the GT35R seems to have higher horsepower potential.

Oh yeah, the GT35R definately has a lot higher potential.

I would say the powerband on the RX6 travels from 2500-6500 and the powerband on the GT35R, depending on setup, ranges from 3500-7500

 

gt35r spools alot quicker, great for street

 

Definately doesn't spool faster than a RX6, but it definately carries the power up top where the RX6 will kinda fall on its face.

Really depends what the overall goals are. You will be able to make your horsepower range on the RX6 with higher boost levels (17-18~ psi) while you will be able to make that kind of power at only 10-14~ psi on the GT35R

For the money and power goal, a T04E with a 57 or 60 trim would likely be a better pick than the GT35r. If setup properly it should spool a little quicker than the GT35r and produce the same power as the RX6 at lower boost levels similar to the GT35r.

 

I just ordered a GT3574R from A-spec. Sean told me it makes more power at lower boost levels than a 35r and it a great track street setup. You should hit Sean at A-spec for some clarification and comparisons.

 

An RX6 is way to small if you ask me. Get a GT35R or GT35/74.

I personally prefer the gt35r
I run a gt3582r on my car 1.06 T4 divided housing 3" v-band outlet.
Thing spools almost instantly on the street and it put down 383.2whp on 12.xx psi on 93 octane with a street ported motor.
response is awesome on shifts and from rolls.
