PFS race intercooler, as soon as i find someone to buy it, i might be going front mount.

Dougiefresh, do you have any pics of your setup? I'm curious as to how you pulled it off

M2 Medium, pics here:
http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/gallery/mycar/index.html

I am not sure this is really representative of the real temps (and it probably isn't since the sensor is so slow to react), but I did a bunch of datalogging on boost the other night and the highest temp in the whole log was 41C. Most of the averages were in the high 30s.

It seems to work pretty well when the car is moving, but dyno tuning with a FMIC can be a challenge. I added a fan to the IC and it held the temps to 50C or so on the dyno, where it would go higher (60C or so, I think) without the fan running. My datalogging in the last paragraph was done with the fan off -- I don't think it helps much when you are moving, but I don't have any data to back that up.

Tailhappy, do you track your car on a road course? What type of water temperatures do you see?

Correction to my post: I have an ASP Medium IC. I got it from Kevin before M2 started selling them, but usually refer to it as M2 anyway since that is what people are more familiar with. But Kevin is selling them again, so I should go back to calling it an ASP.

Max, what kind of air intake temperatures are you seeing on the freeway and on the track? What did the guys at XS say about your intercooler? I have a bigger one than yours currently and they still said that they like FMIC better!

GReddy SMIC here.

Works perfect for my autoX and street applications, just like the RX6.

It was 50C on the dyno with the IC fan running. It was higher (60C?) without the fan. Those are high temps. Stock mounts can be a challenge on the dyno like that, so I am not surprised that XS would prefer a FMIC for that work. They said the same thing to me (FMIC would be better), but not in a negative way or anything.

I logged a bunch of data on the street the other night (50-55F ambient) and my temps ranged from 31C at startup to 41C peak, with the averages mostly in the high 30s. It seems to work fine.

I would like to see what it gets up to on a hot day at the track, but I'll have to wait until we have some hot days to test it.

Did they recommend a particular one for you and is there any reason you didn't go with it?

They didn't recommend one. And I don't really want one! The ASP Medium seems to work fine for me without temping the overheat gods any more than I need to. Despite running cooler than most FDs, I overheated the car a few times at WSIR on a hot day with two drivers, so I don't want to reduce the cooling system performance. I'd like to build it up so that it simply won't overheat no matter what, and that is a higher priority goal than improving my IC performance at this time. The IC I have seems to work fine, except on the dyno. I might change my mind later, but I'm not all that interested in a FMIC at this time.

1FookinTite, I go to VIR fairly regularly. Running 13psi, at the end of the summer, I ran into some cooling problems after several very hot laps. Water temps got up to 105, so I pulled the plug on the fun until it cooled back down (about one lap). It may have levelled off there, but I didn't want to risk any damage so just played it safe. I only did one other event since all the new parts were put on, and didn't have any issues then. But it was also pretty cold out. Also, I have zero ductwork, so I figure once I force the air through the radiator, that will probably be the end of the cooling probs.

For what it's worth, on the street I've reprogrammed the fans to come on at 93, and I've never seen the water temp go above that.

I'm a big fan of Apexi. Seems like quality products to me.
