recirculated in dp vs. open wastegate ...

Anybody runs a street driven car with the the wastegate not recirculating into the downpipe ? Is it too loud ?

Is there any performance differences between the two setups ? (lag, power, ...)

street ported 13b-t T66

thank you !

I vent my dual wastegate setup to atmosphere. I have a Half BP motor and 3.5" exhaust.

Watch video for sound...

depending on how your boost controller is setup it doesn't necessarily open at "full boost".

i run off my 10# waste gate spring and it opens at like 5psi. I like the sound though, but i daily driver my car as well and in some respects it gets annoying. IE just trying to hop on the freeway to go work. Then again it kicks *** like there in the video he posted. Sounds bad ***, scares crack heads and harley riderz

LOL...yeah, especially the crack heads. i guess i just think that for how loud it sounds, i should be feeling more power.

It is too loud for my taste... because it is unmuffled exhaust. It is louder when you are NOT on full boost due to the "dumping" or bypass of exhaust gases from the wastegate. The more you are on boost, the less is being routed around the turbo. It depends on the turbo capability and boost control setting.

You can reroute your wastegate dump pipe into your exhaust, I did on my daily driver (http://www.jigsawrx7.com/streetcar.html), but it is primarily for noise reduction or to be street legal... the performance change is so minimal, it really doesn't make that much of a difference... your only talking about a few horsepower, depending on the routing.

Greddy T88 large frame in one car, and Apex Rx6 Ball bearing in another.

Lots of people like the open wastegate noise at first, most get tired of it after driving around for a while.

We have customers that actually keep earplugs in their gloveboxes.

We end up routing the wastegates into the DP on lots of cars where the turbo kit was originally dumped to the atmosphere

Talking

Nothing sounds as nice as a turbo rotary with the WG merged back into the muffler system. *screamer pipes* sound gay, are annoying, and do **** all for increasing power.

that's just what I read...I have had both and can say, I stay on the throttle longer with it plumbed in, so I probably offset the loss with rpms

gt35r I was thinking of just putting an extension on the wastegate just to muffle it somewhat.

I love mine, it makes the car sound completely different. And yes power can and will be lost. More if the job is not done correctly.

just piping on it will make it louder. I have experience with such matters. I got a dump pipe made and it increased sound alot. Amplifies it FOR SHOOOO.

Does anyone on here use a seperate muffler for the wastegate? Several years ago I rode in an FD with TO4S that had a muffler on the WG and it wasn't any louder than if rerouted to the main exhaust.
