Racing Beat Race Wire Set

Hey guys,

I was just reading on Racing Beats site about their race wire set, and they say that they recommend the use of non-resistor spark plugs. Does anyone use these wires and know what kind of plugs they are talking about. I'm going with a setup that should be good for between 400 and 450 rwhp on my FC so would their ULTRA street wire set be good enough? People with experience with these wires would be of great help.

Stay away from "race" wires unless you're running carbs and a distributor.

ted, i had their red wires on my car for a while. . . they call them race, but the only thing they are is nice. they have a resistance or like 1500ohms or something. . . much more than even the accel 8.8s that i have on my car now. i think the msd wires have something like 25ohms/ft. . . mine are 56ohms/ft i think. im sure theyre an advantage over stockers as far as delivery is concerned, but "race"???? i just dont think so.

based on that. . . i hope you dont waste your money. . . those things are NOT cheap. just spend 50-60 on a universal set of msd wires, accel, or taylors (those are supposed to be pretty good) and have a nice day.

With the mention of "non resistor spark plugs", I'm sure these are the spark plug wires with almost zero resistance.
These things put out RFI like a ****.
Having anything electronic in the car, and it'll wreak havoc with them.
This is why I mention carbs / dizzys only.
Don't even think about using it with EFI.

I got those RB Ultra wires.

EMI and EMC bud....not RFI. . I don't think the frequencies we're talking about could really be in the RF range. But as far as choosing the wires, it all depends on the wires suppression as well as impendance mismatch with the spark plugs. You can still have a low resistance plug wires with high suppression and/or high resistance plug wires with low suppression. When purchasing spark plug wire, always look for their suppression rating.

What does that mean "suppression rating"?

Also, how would I know what plugs would compliment my choice of wires?

Ted, what kind of plugs are you using with those ULTRA wires? and what kind of hp numbers are you making?

You can't go wrong with the factory NGK wires. Suppression is a measure of filtering unwanted signal/noise. For spark plug wires, the higher the suppression OHM reading, the better it suppresses the unwanted noise. Last I recall, NGk is around 200ohm impedance and 1500 ohm suppression.
As for as impedance matching. It's really not as important in low frequency stuff in the automobile as compared to RF land (cell phone, computer etc..). Basically, when you have mismatch impedance, you'll get reflective wave which goes back to your coil instead of your plugs. That means that not alll energy will transfer to the spark plug and you'll lose spark energy. Since the voltage we're talking about is in the thousands, a couple hundred volt loss isn't that big of a deal.
