Race ported Motor with HKS T51R

Well since my last message didnt' fly too well....? What kind of power would you think I could get with a Stage three motor from Rx7store.net and a T51R running from 11-15psi in Denver, CO? Remember, we're a little ways up there (5500ft). Also, how do these T51R's spool up and is there a way to make them spool quicker like you can by switching compressor wheels on the T78. Thanks for the info.

To give you a good idea, I have that motor with a T-78 and at 16lbs I made 458 RWHP running rich. The T-51 flows more than the T-78.

if u want quicker spool just go w/ a smaller turbo and boost more. 11-15psi on a t51 is just a waste of a turbo that big.

Well I was thinking of making this car a weekend driver car/track car. I would like the motor to last a long time with how much I'll be driving it. Does rx7store.net do good engine work? With a stage three, could I take the car up to more boost at the track... or even run NOS safely on a turbo the size of a T51 or T78? I'd really like to see 11's up here but like I said, I don't want the engine blowing on me. And I know tuning is the most important part about that so does anyone know any top notch tuning places in or near Colorado? If i had rx7store do the engine work it'd be nice to have them tune it as well but the problem is that I'm at such a different elevation :-\ Well thanks for your thoughts.

What I meant was:

How do you plan on keeping everything outside the motor in one piece? If you are going to get a T78 or a T51 you are going to want to boost them rather hard, or you aren't going to be using them efficiently. That being said, if you plan or racing the car or boosting hard, you SHOULD plan on bulletproofing the rearend and other components.

rxrotary2_7 offers a Transmission brace that will help fight movement on launches. (He also offers fuel setups for applications such as yours)

Dragon offers a diff brace and a transmission brace.

You know Jason .

You might want to look into a TII rear. The FD's is known to break in high boost/power applications.

I'd do lots of reading/asking before buying anything. There are a million setups that work well for every application. There are also many valuable members here. Vosko, Dragon, SleepR1, jayspecracer7, FD3BOOST to just name a few...

We have pineapple build the motors. We dont do any of that at the shop. We do install them and do other upgrades.

Ok... so you're saying that for the T51 to even be worth it I would have to be running above 20psi. So, I guess my question now is ... if I ran that high of boost on just an average everyday basis, would the motor last? I mean, I was hoping for 450rwhp or something on moderate boost (15psi) and then being able to up it at the track to 25 psi or something and hitting well above 500rwhp. Would the T78 or T04S be a better bet than the T51? or would my motor be ok if I went around town at 20psi on the T51 if I had the diff, tranny... engine etc. well done? Thanks and sorry for all the questions :-x Just trying to learn.

The real answer is in the tuning. If it's WELL tuned it'll last. If you cut corners, you'll be building motors every day.

Honestly for daily driving I say the TO4S. I don't know what TOWN you live in, but 20 psi on a T51 around town is just not going to happen (realistically). With the TO4 you can still spool at a reasonable time and still make gobs of power.

no can't putt around town on that much boost w/ just pump gas. the slightest detonation and you're dead. w/ that much power you can't expect the most reliable motor in the world. as w/ any race motor even if you don't blow it every once in a while, it'll get tired and will need periodic rebuilds.

Save yourself some money on the turbo and have someone buid a custom Garret(or other) one instead of a name brand kit (HKS/Greddy) Contact BSC.

I ran a TO4S @ 19.9 psi and had a daily 472rwhp with instant boost responce in ANY gear. I also have a large T51 and also chose to have one because I am going to run a minimum of 20psi on a street port with custom intake manifold and water to air IC (much higher VE than your typical set up running street port)... the main concept of this turbo is to run pressure ratios of up to and over 4 bar absolute (3 bar gauge pressure 43.5psi) which I fully intend to do (700+rwhp range).

A T51 if its a HKS variety or original Garrett depending on exact trim realy is not a turbo you should be thinking about with a street port @ 11 to 15psi, it will be **** and will get beat by every decent car set up with a smaller "better" turbo. If the car is bridge ported then this is the only case where that turbo will be suitable, which in your case it is not ???
Like I said, I only run about 12psi on my T51R on the street (Straight Line). T04S's don't stand a chance against me or even stock twins. I put bus lengths on them from the hole. Spool up isn't a issue at all.

Resorce; what setup do you have on your RX (engine work, exhaust, fuel, etc.)? You seem to love it so I'm curious what you have.

Get ready to take notes..

He has an EXTENSIVE list of mods to include some serious weight reduction. His car IS very fast.

Your car only weighs like 2,300 lbs and runs 12.4 as well!

That was a mistake. My car weighs alot more than that. The scales around here are bogus. Try 2660 without me in it.

I ran 12.20@119 with 10psi

I've got to dissagree with you on that. I run around 10-11 psi on the street usually and haven't lost a race yet. I've raced many low sec 11 second cars from a modded spraying Z06 to a 700rwhp Supra and just beat them reapeatedly.
If you think that sucks *** then damn

Can you list what you have done to your car, Resource? I'm very interested and would really appreciate it. Thanks a ton.

There is no need to run a T51 on the street at low boost levels unless you just wanna be able to say "I have a T51".Get something with a more useful powerband to it and you will have twice the fun, running a turbo with a boost threshold that comes on at 2/3rds the useable power band is pointless. You can listen to others here if you want but you will more than likely be very disappointed in how laggy that turbo is.
