Race fuel

Where can I get those little bottles of race fuel mix that I can add to my tank for high boost? I saw an ad in a racing magazine that claimed it was better than VP when mixed with pump gas. I forgot the name of the company. I am supposed to run race gas on high boost for extra safety, but I am tired of Turbo Porches and highly boosted 300ZXs hanging with me just because I am on pump gas. I am not looking for octane booster or any miracle products. I want to mix up my own batch of the good smelling juice. Does anybody have the link to or info on a good brand race fuel concentrate? Thanks

Most cost effective in my opinion http://www.coolingmist.com/installation.aspx you can run 20+psi on pump gas.

A little bottle? Those things are gimmicky. They don't actually raise your octane to 108 or any thing like that. You need the actual fuel to do it -- $5 to $5.50 per gallon.

Use actual race/avgas depending on the status of your cat(s). Or, you can run a mix of toluene or xylene and premium.

Thanks for the responses. I have no cats (except for Mojona and Chichiman LOL). I know water injection is super but don't want to purchas/install it right now. I want something solid, consistent and safe. Expensive drums of VP sound the closest to it right now....

There is supposed to be one special gas station in Broward that has 103 right at the pump. I am still looking for the exact address but a lot of big cars go there. Anyone?

Race Fuel

be careful with the avgas... it was not designed with high reving, multi rpm, high temp enviroments in mind. i believe it is not quite equilivent to a race fuel of the same octane. it is also leaded. that means you have to remove o2's and cats.
good price though ~$3.50/gal

i was very impressed with a 3:1 mix of 91pump and tolene bought at the local Sherwin Williams. this has an effective octane of (3x91+114)/4=96.75 and from the sound of this article other good burn charateristics.
kind of expensive though (3*$2.20 + 1*$14) averaged to $5.15/gal

toluene article: http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html

Thanks, I heard a lot about that stuff. Will have to read the article before I try it though. I was acutally planning to fill up with 110 octane that is apparently available at a gas within 30 miles of me. Between that and 11.5 plugs I should be safe to run 17 psi. (?)
The toluene sounds very promising though. Doesn't that stuff have adverse reproductive effects? If inhaled or ingested of course. Thanks

Yeah I don't plan on using avgas, there are a lot of chemicals in there for the altitude and messes up your tuning too I heard.

I would think you could run 100 octane and 11.5 range plugs for 17 psi. I know alot of guys that run 18psi+ on 93 or 92 octane safely. But I would run 100 octane for safety precautions. Good tuning is gonna be your biggest factor though.

So I've been doing a LOT of research on Toluene and Xylene. What a topic! I am currently using T. with good results on low boost but have a million questions and still iffy on turning up the boost and relying on additives to provide a margin of safety. There is also a local pump with 110, I wonder how good/bad it is (lead, water, quality)??? What a subject

umm, dunno. Seems like an expensive octane booster. If anybody has experience with this product, please chime in. Thanks for the link though.

Update: My car ran excellent with Toluene. With leaded 100 octane Sunoco it ran like . I am debating whether to just mix my own unleaded high octane gas. I will start a thread about LEAD now to learn more. Thanks. Yea, I would love to run C16 VP it smells awesome, but in a daily driver..........???

I was just talking to someone that told me about toluene. The link you had was great... and timely.. I even used the search to find it. (good for me, right). I have access to toluene and could potentially get it free. My main reason was to prevent pre detonation even on a lightly modded FD that is running about 12 psi boost. Essentially I am looking for insurance. Is that a good assumption or does the ECU make all the necessary corrections.

I have just run a gallon of toulene and a gallon of Xylene to 3/4 tank of 93 Amoco. I find them at Sherwin Williams and Home Depot for $12-13/ gallon. I find that the car runs excellent on both, they are both mixable with each other as well as gasoline, the exhaust smells like race gas and throws huge fireballs. The car pulls stronger. Use at your own risk. Do not inhale, ingest, or touch with bare skin. Very flammable. I am never ever using octane booster of leaded race gas again.
