i don't understand your question. the v-band flange is supposed to be welded on. are you talking about the clamp?

Welding a regular V-flange will not work. You need the actual piece that companies make to weld in there. It fills up all the gaps. Don't know where you can get one though

OK the hot side of the turbo is cast is the piece I need cast because I heard that you can only weld cast to cast and the flanges I have are s.s.

yes, you can weld stainless to cast iron. Use nickel filler

You have several options:
- have a place that welds v-band flanges to turbing housings weld one to your housing (I'm not sure that your average welding shop is equipped to do this or not)
- buy a turbine housing with a v-band flange already welded to it
- don't use a v-band

If you have one of those turbos with a plain non flanged housing then you will have to take one of the options that Max already gave, or use a housing with a bolt on style flange.Basically if you can't get it welded on you will have to swap out your turbine housing but i don't see a problem with welding it if the correct filler rod is used.

Ok instead of starting another thread I will juat add to this one. I was wondering if I could just get a small piece of pipe and weld it to the turbo and weld one of the flanges to the other end of that.

just switch the housing, way easier and you know its right....look to spend about $80 to $90, but you can specify your exhaust housing size....i would just use a common downpipe flange on it so you dont have to worry about making a downpipe with a v-band
