fam speed - $2575.95 includes rad, intercooler, all mounting hardwear and air spliter
Hks - $2100/$2500 no rad only intercooler and mounting brakets for rad and air spliter
rotary extreme - $2850 includes rad, intercooler, air spliter and mounting equipment, piping
signal - N/A have not got a responce from them yet

these are some of the largest out there so how is this overpriced? to me you are getting the same deal as rotary extreme but getting a larger intercooler and rad! but this is only from what i can see in the picture..waiting for jason to get back to me from jt-imports.

You didn’t include the ducting, which will be an integral part of how efficient the thing will work. and that tubing is not cheap, nor are the couplers.
That and chuck does incredible work, has great technical support, and really serves the rotary community enthusiastically which makes a real difference when you want something changes to fit professionally with the other components of your system.

That and if you are merely running twins (don’t know your setup just guessing) this will be more than sufficient and the price is 2350

Damn, thats a baby IC. Its less than 3" thick. I'd expect a better IC for that price. Hell, I wouldnt pay that price no matter what IC core was used but still they should throw in something a little more substantial. I believe thats less total volume than a M2 med and it cost over $2800.

Our small vmount IC core measures 15"x10.75"x3" (381mm x 273mm x 76mm) so it's a little bigger than the Knight Sports one. The Fam Speed one should be the same size as the Knight Sports one. The Knight Sports one or the Fam Speed one might look a little bigger mounted on the car because they fit it with the stock battery that the IC mounts more toward the passenger side. I am pretty sure our monster vmount IC core is the biggest one out there by volume.

Chuck aren’t the dimensions on that core itself 15x10.5x2.87., not that it is a huge issue but it is not quite 3” making the metric equivelent with the width correction (381mm x 266.7mm x 72.898mm)
Isnt the smaller Vmount you make sufficient to right around 655HP and capable of flowing 935 CFM.
Shoudnt this be capable and more than adequate for this application?
What would be the benefit of running a much larger IC other than for maybe a little faster recovery, and the bling factor?
Does the larger internal volume contribute to lag in any substantial/quantifiable way?
Is the large a bar and plate?

The current small vmount IC core is alittle bigger. It should be 15"x10.75"x2.87" to be exact.

The monster vmount IC core has lower pressure drop and it takes longer to be heat soaked. Since the volume is more, it has more lag at lower rpm. At higher rpm, the turbo provides enough air flow so the lag is almost the same as the small one. The monster vmount IC core is bar and plate and the regular one is tube and fin.

With these dimensions you should be lucky to flow a third of what you indicated. (assuming that air flows through the longer and fewer tubes) No wonder Chuck didn't comment on this.

You can#t really calculate the flow rate without all measurements. Since all reputable intercoolers have similar performance attributes you can check one of the manufacturers website, like spearco or bell, for an IC with similar dimensions. The flow rate is usually indicated on the webiste. In any case, I looked at all the Vmounts and for that matter FMICs and didn#t like the way they are designed. All IC set-ups are based on a core that flows air through a few but long tubes. What you want are short air ways but a lot of them. In other words the endtanks should be on top and the bottom rather than on the side. This design will yield better cooling and less pressure loss. The only draw back is the piping. Plumbing will be more complicated but can be accomplished as long as you relocate the battery. I can send you a pic of my custom build Vmount, once I am back home.

I would appreciate a pic of your v-mount setups, thanks. breadrizzle(deletethis)@hotmail.com

What you say about the dimensions of i/c and the effects is interesting.

When using an i/c with short tubes but more of them as you say, this makes long/higher-volume end tanks?, how does this affect flow/lag?

The end tanks are larger with this set-up but really not that much. They tapper of and the shorter air passages way offset the larger end tanks. I have to admit I don't have a direct comparison since my tubing with the V moint is so much shorter now than it was with the standard FMIC. So this is based on theory rather than direct comparison.
