Unhappy Problems with turbonetics racegate

Im having problems controlling my boost after 5000 rpm,i have the racegate with 9 psi spring with boost from the front compressor cover to the side of the gate and the top port open to air.It will hold boost fine untill 5000rpm then it will rise very fast to 15psi by 7000rpm in 2nd gear and up if i use any more than 65% throttle then hit fuel cut, does anyone have any idea why this is happening, thanks Roy.

mods are- gt35/40,front mount,3" straight through exhaust,blitz filter,mild port,850/1200cc injectors,power fc,bosch 044 fuel pump.I think thats all that matters.

We avoid that stuff as much as possible.  These things used to fail pretty regularly, resulting in blown engines.  The hollow dowel that is used as a guide for the actuator rod from the diaphram to the valve tends to get loose and jam the valve closed.

Of course I find this out after buying it.

Another $430us which was like $800cdn down the drain.

I think I will just burn it all!!!!!!

I feel your pain I've used the racegate in the past and have had nothing but trouble. There is something about turbonetics wastegates I don't like, I solved that problem by using Tial, a little more expensive, but less headaches and less breakage especially when it comes to high boost! Just a little input from my experience...

Turbonetics wastegates are too inconsistent. Quality control aren't all that good. Check all your hose connections. If they're correct then sometimes the racegates are also know to leak past the seal in the bottom of the diaphram housing basicaly causing a boost leak on the pressure side or control side causing the boost to creep. They use a little teflon seal in that location. The stem of the valve is also known to get pretty worn down in that area.
The main problem I have with them in both piston and rotary applications is that the head of the valve is a two piece design and after prolong heat cycles they tend to come appart resulting in no boost. This normaly would happen after about a year of normal daily use or sometimes as quick as one month if you run for extended times especialy during high speed runs.
They do flow a lot better than the regular 40mm HKS wastegate though.
I was hoping the 'New Gen' wastegate from Turbonetics would have improved over the earlier designs because it seemed pretty well designed but testing so far have not been good. Lot's of lag due to the swing valve's seat not aligning with the actual valve/gate causing boost to leak right out the outlet of the W/G. It sucks when you install a brand new W/G and all you hear from a car idling is exhaust leaking out the outlet.
Believe me I've had some of them work pretty good except for the valve falling apart problem but for every ten I would say only one is good.
The Tial W/G seems pretty well designed although I've not personaly tested any of them in rotary applications but a lot of people are using them and are happy with the results. Also I don't think Garrett would sell them if they didn't test them.

Make sure the diaphragm isn't blown out.

ive had the same prob with a turbonetic racegate twice.

the seal in the base of the diaphragm housing was stuffed and the gate wasnt opening.

they are poorly made and designed in my opininon.

Also make sure you have a good sized hose feeding the actuator to overcome the leakage around the shaft seal. I'm no wastegate expert, but all the ones I've seen leak in this area, turbonetics or not.
