Post photos of your POV setup...

I've been searching POV and there's not much. Guess not many of you are running them. Was thinking of getting one and setting it a few PSI higher than my max boost just for protection.

Anyone have photos of the Greddy POV welded into place?

Thanks,
David

I have heard that POVs are bad for turbos because if it ever opens your turbos will overspin. Just what I've heard, no personal experience.

I have been reading this. But honestly...I'd rater over spin my turbos and loose 1k than blow my motor and loose 4k....Plus, from what I understand, you are only going to over spin them if the POV opens...It should NOT open if your setup is working properly. But if for some reason your WG fails then it does open and keep you from blowing the motor.

I was thinking of a way I could use the stock charge relief valve as something similar...but then I was able to tame my boost, still isn't bad protection. You'd definitely hear it once it opens at WOT, and then go trouble shoot your boost problem.

good thought Dave.

Beautiful bay!

POV is Pop Off Valve....It's set to a certain boost lever a little above desired boost...If for some reason you have a failure which causes you to overboost it will open up and prevent you from boosting too high...Motor savior device...

Thanks man! I had to machine the flange for the POV to fit the pipe, it was a
square with a hole in each corner, but after a couple of minutes in the turning machine it was ready! I will take some pics of it welded to the pipe...

I welded mine to the side of the IC. Like molehill, I had to take some of the flange off prior to welding it. I'd post pics but i basically lookes like a POV welded to the IC. Setting it is tricky. It has a pipe thread on it so I got a PVC thread fitting and made a pressure chamber of PVC pipe. Drilled two more holes in the pipe, one for a valve stem and another nipple to connect to my boost gage. Then I hooked an air compressor to the chamber and just dialed in the boost that it opens at (2 PSI over my max setting). Otherwise, you'll have no idea what it is set at. Also I put a piece of tape on the piston as a tell-tale so I can see if it is opening (you can't really hear it). I think it's pretty cheap insurance.

(avitar is prior to installation, it's on the passenger's side, just above the filter)

That's smart...At least you don't have to do trial and error this way...Good idea. I will do it this way.

By request, here is the calibration setup I used. The right side is where the POV is threaded in.

Excellent...This would be great for callibrating the boost pressure sensor on the water injection setup too....I am in the middle of that now.
