My engine and turbos just went and my warranty company is covering it. I am looking at upgrades since they have to be replaced anyway. I would really like to go single but do not know what kits are available and what they include. The only mods I have done to my car are ACT clutch and Apex'i N1 catback. No intercooler, Intake, Downpipe fuel system upgrades or computer. I need to know what these turbo kits include and what I would need to buy. I don't want a kit that has a lot of lag. I do not have that much money to throw around. I think my warranty will give me Approx $2,700 towards turbos and I have $1,300 = $4,000. Can I get a single in my car and running for this? What kit? HP? T78 has always interested me but I hear it has bad lag. ANY advice will be appreciated. PLEASE HELP!

BTW should I get a streetported motor? (don't know how they work with a single)

 

Get the motor streetported (which feels great even with the stock turbos), but it doesn't sound like a single turbo is within your budget. The RX-7 Store has a package that will give you an idea of the minimum costs for single turbo conversion parts. Installation, tuning, and the seemingly inevitable development and debugging that goes along with such a major modification will add a few more thousand.

T78 RX-7 owners don't have too many complaints about lag from what I have seen. Rotaries like big turbos.
