Port timing with turbo

If i compare a n/a PP engine with a turbo PP engine what would the difference in port timing be?

would the inlet be similar but the exhaust of lesser duration?

I am building one of these at the moment !

The only difference is in the Exhaust port, depending on who you get to do your housings. I got mine do by Rotor Motion in Western Australia and as delivered by them the exhaust port compared to a n/a PP is down on the closing timing I lift this quite a bit.

If you get to look at Racing Beat housings they have much higher exhaust port closing timing.

There is no real differences between the two in my opinion, I have run n/a PP for a long time of my own style and from other Notable tunners back in my early days. HALF of the crap you hear in Australia especially from magazines is from misinformed sources or just falacies pushed by people with limited knowledge in this area. Example of this is how popular bridge porting is in the US and has been in JAPAN for the past 10years, yet not many people here will even aknowledge that it will even work?

Mazda first ran "full bridge ported" 13Bs in turbo form for the Japan prototype championship in 1985.

the engine made 515BHP on 1 bar boost with mechanical fuel injection, it won quite a few races, then mazda concentrated on developing 3 rotor n/a engine for better fuel consumption. In japan they ran in two configurations, the main one was with a single turbo ontop of the engine then they used twin "smaller" turbos later on.

These engines were sent "as is" to RACING BEAT where they used them to set a land speed record of over 238MPH in 1986 in a 2nd gen RX7.

On all but the most radical PP it would be no problem.

The problem is in the rest of the engine, most N/A PPs run carbon seals. Most run high compression rotors and add to this std clearances on the rotor lands (not a real problem with 9k and ONLY 350bhp) when you run these at high revs assosiated with high internal loads you get the rotor tips hitting the side plates, And in general there is detailed preperation work needed to be done to the engine to get it to transfer the heat generated and to accept the loads involved with turbo charging.

That aside, there is no reason why full bridge ported engines or Peripheral port engines cannot be turbocharged. It has been done many times.

interesting.... i'm suprised that turbo bridge ports aren't more common here in Oz...

Hey did you get the stuff i sent u re the anti reversion rachets? Do you think these could be of use with a street engine?

thanks

I am sorry Andrew ! I wondered who the hell sent me this stuff

It only skimmed over it, I am going to print it out and have a look in more detail. Any more interesting stuff send it through.

Peter.

Scary man!&nbsp I have ZERO experience with PP stuff - I think RICE RACING would be a better authority!
