CA smog and single turbo

have people in california had any success passing smog with single turbo setups. i understand its possible to pass the sniffer with a hiflow cat and electric airpump, but the visuals are a problem.

i'd love to hear what you all are doing....since it seems pretty pointless to have a single if you can't drive it.

the reason i ask is while i'm satisfied with my present fd, i have the opportunity to buy a very nice fd from out of state with an apexi rx6. its a nice upgrade for me, if i can drive it. while it would be a occasional track and weekend car....it must be driveable on the road.

thanks
fabian

ps.....yes i did a search, no it wasn't terribly helpful.

You basically need to know someone that knows someone. There is now way in hell that there is a smog tech that is dumb enough to pass a fd with a single turbo.

What CAN you do...

What CAN you do to your car in Cali and pass smog. I mean from what I hear, open element filters are not smog legal. So does that mean that an FC with a larger turbo, FMIC and various other parts wouldn't pass? Should I just move???

click the link below, it is from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), basically it states that the aftermarket part has to have a CARB E.O number.

Well damn!

Thanks for the link! It looks to me like just about anything you can do to improve the performance of a car is illegal. I dunno how I'm gonna get away with it

I have a better one here:

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/devices.htm

You can search by modification part for an EO number, gives you an idea of what is legal. There is a LOT of HKS stuff that is CARB legal. Not that I use it anyway..
