i can vouch for nyt, i honestly dont think nyt is that type of person. the blades got hit with something and i know UPS didnt do it. so the damage must had happened either before it was shipped or after it was received. again, i highly doubt nyt would scam anybody. but turbo1 is not pointing fingers and isnt asking for a refund. he just wants to know how much to fix the problem. so just help him and leave it at that?

It looks to me that Turbo1 isn't being totally honest about this. That much soot does not just come off without help. nyt is an outstanding guy, and would not rip anyone off, intentionally. If you did indeed recieve this turbo like this, it's how he recieved it from Precision after the rebuild, and he did make 427hp with it. I've already suggested that nyt not give any money back for this, because he did not do anything wrong. Turbo1: a few people on here have already said that damage would not affect performance noticeably, and nyt already had it in his car with that damage (assuming it wasn't damaged after he removed it), and made a huge amount of power with it. Suck it up, put it in, and be happy.

I pulled a turbo out of my 87 (the original stock turbo) and it was WAY WAY worse than that and it still made good power and didn't smoke/leak/whine... I'm not saying it's the ideal situation, but if the price was good and it spins smoothly I might not worry about it TOO much.

I could be wrong . so if your motor is in one piece , what else could have passed through WITHOUT damaging yout motor in the process ??.

nothing? theres no way that turbo was damaged when it was on my motor. the motor coming apart was spotless... this whole situation just seems a bit odd to me. it looks like theres a tiny chip out of a blade... egt's alone wont do that, that turbine was spinning and hit something

TURBO1.

1) It wont hurt performance.
2) Its caused by FOD and/or excessive anti-lag use.

Its good to go. If you dont believe me call precision.

I just pisses me off that I'm in this situation now. I get a decent deal on a turbocharger, and now look. Half the poeple on the forum I'm new to think I'm trying to screw someone. I'm pissed that NYT won't even take the time to speak with me on the phone. I'm pissed about being ACCUSED. I'm pissed that someone out there is questioning my INTEGRITY. I'm even more upset, because I just wanted a good F(#&*^@%$)(*#@$ turbo that I could fab up a manifold for, put it on the car, and go down the #(&@#$ road.

I get shitty choices on this one. Either I keep the turbo, and end up looking like I made this whole thing up.

Or I get a refund, and everyone out there thinks I'm trying to screw someone over.

Lesson learned hard-core on this one. Buy a new turbo, or be there to inspect it before you hand cash over.

WTF is this crap? My "friend" owns an automotive REPAIR facility. NOT a shop that does ANY highperformance work (cept the owners Z06). I told you, I showed up to work, put turbo in car, removed turbo because I needed to clock housings. Removed the 4 bolts that hold the turbine housing on the CHRA, and presto, blade damage.

I'm tired of being the one that recieved something damaged, and then being ACCUSED of damaging it, when I took photos right out of the box.

I hesitate to even post on this thread, but if I may, why did you tear down your motor NYT?

I have spoken at various times to both individuals, TurboI at length. He is a straight up guy, in fact, he and I were planning on making our fuel systems concurrently, and he basicly offered to make, and give me a set of fuel rails for the project. That is not a person that is trying to screw anyone. It is a bad deal either way, These guys should take this private, and make a compromise IMHO. Send the pictures to Precision, and see what they say(probably cannot say much without having it balanced). I think they should split the cost of having it balanced, and call it good. I believe BOTH are honest, and one has some how missed something. Most likely the cost of cleaning up, and balancing the turbine, then splitting the cost will still yield a fair deal for both parties. Carl

Can take all the pics of motor parts you want to. Fact is, turbo arrived damaged. I didn't buy a damaged GT40, I bought one that was like new with less than 1000 miles, which had been rebuilt once before.

I've got more pics, in different light, that show the red rusty residue on the turbine housing. I've got a freaking MOVIE of the turbine blade side, both ways. I need somewhere to host them.

I'm thinking $500 for used damaged turbo + $300 to rebuild it = $800.
I can buy a brand new one from CFT for $900.

internet shopping for used goods is risky. period.

I got burned on a Brand NEW non-terminated E6K & harness...non-terminated because it was cut entirely too short to reach into the bay. Brand New because the asshat trying to install it was clueless and it never ran.

I'm not pointing at either party...just risky

I agree. Although, after the emotion has calmed down on both sides, I believe we may be reaching an amicable (sp?) solution to the problem.

perhaps you should take a class on turbos. i don't mean to sound like a dick but he posted 3 pictures, the first 2 were of a turbine wheel.

Maybe, what happened, was this :

Got shipped out via whatever courier.
Was checked at the shipping depot
Guy checking it noticed it was the same size compressor/turbine core as his shitty blown one.
GUy at postal station switches it out when no one is looking.
