Opinions on buying turbos new/rebuilt/used?

Just wondering what everyone thinks of buying new/rebuilt/used turbochargers in general.

Obviously if it's brand new, it should be good, and you definitely pay for it which isn't always a bad thing.

Rebuilt, if done properly, should be almost as good as new, but I've never tried. Does anyone have experience? I may go this route for my next project.

Used is fairly hit-or-miss I'd imagine, but if you can verify condition via shaft play, oil leakage, condition of fins, etc... and all appears within spec - then what are your opinions on going used - worth the risk/bother in general?

i do not like deling with used/rebuild turbos , once i bought from a certain mic-turbo and i had a turbo explode on me .....yes explode , the center cartridge blew up ,i found chunks of metal in my oil pan so big i could read part numbers off of them ,needless to say that engine was gone , called up the guy , and he tells me the i was running with no wastegate and/of bov
i fed-ex the turbos to him for him to see ,(that costs money) and he still doesnt refund me my money , thats been about a year now so .....since then , no used rebuilt or new turbos from shady people , i woud rather get a turbonetics or hks or greddy , just because when **** goes wrong these people will stand behind their product , at least turbonetics does

When it comes to the stock twin turbo setups on 3rd gens, either go single or get a new one. Trying to rebuild it and have it actually last is futile....
