I bought a turbo kit w/o that flange, and I just never noticed. Until after it was installed. I had about 1-3 psi at 7k.

I removed the wastegate this a.m. to check things out and my SFP manifold is constructed w/ the bevel to accept and properly mate/seat the HKS standard wastegate, so that's why I didn't use the HKS flange. I didn't remember that detail.

Nevertheless, thanks for being observant and pointing that out.

Anytime..!! Thats pretty interesting how your manifold is already modified to fit your wastegate. I'm really curious, I would like to seem some pics if you have some.

They just welded the valve seat to the manifold I guess. That's generally not recommended, from what I understand, because it might warp the seat. However, if it works, it works.

The thick pipe itself is beveled and the flange is welded on - there is no warpage and it looks exactly like the flange supplied with the W/G. It's a perfect fit w/o leaks. If they hadn't done it this way, there would be clearance issues with the W/G exhaust and the subframe with the flange in place.

I don't understand why SFP stopped making this manifold as it's stout and well-made. I must've gotten one of the last ones because they claim to have ceased its production awhile back.

I love the wastegate opening sound. MAkes the statement "im at full boost here I come" uber loud and noticeable.

Today I had the wastegate plumbed back into the downpipe. I feel like I've lost some power, although less than 15 horses, while the difference in sound is night and day. The WG joins the exhaust at least a foot away from the turbo, and before the resonator and muffler. It is so quiet now in comparison.

Try using a motocycle muffler instead. I'd just put a 90 bend and then slap on one of those Suzuki, Kawi or Honda mufflers.

if you put a motorcycle exhaust on the end would this restrict the amount of air thats vented and cause boost creep?

At first I was paranoid about possible power losses but the car still pulls hard and is WAAAAY quieter. I want to say that I lost 10 hp but one cannot really feel 10 hp so it must be just the lack of noise. I would definitely recommend this for street cars, if anything turn up the boost a little. You will be able to step on it a LOT more without people running off the road trying to hold their ears

I got a ticket for violating the noise ordinace this past weekend. I stopped at the stop sign and creeped into a left hand turn as lightly as possible and the MF pulled me over. He said I could be heard more than 50 feet away.

I have not even looked at the fine or the particular language yet. But what a PITA!

BTW, I have open WG, DP, T60-1, MP, and RB dual. I will probably try to install a muffler on the WG and put a HF metallic cat on as well.

I think you may be looking at some power loss if you go that route. I would just pay the ticket and plumb the wastegate into the downpipe. It makes a big difference when you're WOT. It is still loud at cruise. If you want good power and QUITER THAN STOCK, go with a full 3" mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust and 2 Magnaflows, one in the back and one in the middle. 2 Magnaflows will make your car extremely quiet, they are a straight through design and can definitely stand turbo rotary heat.

Do you mean install one Magnaflows as a MP, and one as a muffler ?? Actually, i have a big issue on my Race Port with T78 and Apex N1, and i m trying to reduce the noise for it. I have told by some one who said the Borla muffler will reduce the noise, but i m not really sure it will work or not; or should i get a Magnaflows ?? (Where can i buy it)

Also, one more question. What is the meaning of " Open wastegate " ?? is that mean

thx

Well, you have one of the loudest exhausts out there, that doesn't help!

Borla is good quality and very quiet, this is true. But is won't stand up to rotary turbo heat as well as a Magnaflow. I have personally seen them fail at the track, while people have been running Magnaflows on all kinds of nasty rotaries for over a decade. I have a street port and a T78 and I use a Magnaflow and a resonator, with the WG plumbed in the exhaust. It' s not too loud. Another Magnaflow instead of the resonator would have totally shut it up. Yes, you would install the MF in the/or in place of the midpipe. Open wastegate means the WG dumps under the car and it is not routed back into the exhaust (extremely loud). If you have to run only 1 muffler because of your race port, the Borla is quieter than the Magnaflow, but Magnaflows are not restrictive, and chaeper than Borla too. 2 Magnaflows are extremely quiet, and they never fail.

I have a magnaflow exhaust can and muffler. The can is too small in diameter looks small, but it is a 3" inlet. Now the muffler makes the car have a low rumble when idleing, and sort of acceptable while normal driving, but at wot its almost as loud as any exhaust out there.. I guess if you run 2 of them then yes it prolly would be almost silent... It does have a really nice sound to it.

You should be able to buy it at any muffler shop, its a popular brand alot of the domestic guys use it.
