Question Odd turbo question

This probably sounds like a dumb question but humor me, I was asked by a friend if theres a way to make his turbo have the spool up sound of the hks t51r series

im not sure what gives it the unique sound, is it the ant-surge housing design or is it the bullet nut that sits in front of the compressor wheel, maybe something else?

any information would be appreciated.

-Thanks

The anti-surge. But the T51R has a different design of anti surge then the typical cover, so the noise is more high pitched. A regular garret anti surge cover will make it whistle in boost though.

It is indeed the anti-surge housing. They make cool sounds, but at the expense of spool up speed and peak effiencey. They really aren't suited for MOST gas engines, as most turbo's of that size don't spool fast enough to over-whelm most engines that they are bolted too in high RPM's to create the type of surge those housings are designed to defend against. Its a desiel application. So why someone would knowngly trade off spool up speed and peak effiency for a cool sound is beyound me , aside from the turbo's that only come with the anti-surge housings and no smoothed mouth T04S type comp housing option.
