OBX Racing Sports Turbo
I have searched the forum and none showed about OBX Racing Sports Turbo. I'm in the process of buying a new single Turbo as my FD motor being rebuild. My old T04 style turbo **** to bed when apex seal give way. To make the story short. I have been searching for a reasonable turbo. I seen Garrent Turbo they cost too much. Looking at OBX Turbo TBX35R-T4 BB for $800 I think it's a version of Garret GT35 BB $1300. As you can see it's a big price different. It produce the same amount of HP as GT35. My question are has anybody else running OBX Turbo? Are they reliable, etc, etc?

OBX sell budget car stuff, basically ebay quality junk. never heard anything about reliability because no one is dumb enough to buy them. the only stuff i have ever bought from OBX is silicone hose. if you are going to go single, go high quality. you don't want a turbo to **** the bed and spit a broken compresser wheel back into your newly rebuilt engine only to destroy it once again.

Thanks
Thanks guys. I will stay away from OBX. Also, I have researched Master Power as well, there pricing almost as Garret. I will check out th GT3574 turbo. I have spent well over $20G already doing all the conversion and upgrade that's why i'm on a tight budget.

I'm curious. Anyone here have first hand experience with those obx turbos? I'm asking because so far all the answers have been "oh I have a friend" or "its on ebay so it must be junk". I'd really like to know cause I myself have been eyeballing those things for a couple weeks now.

OBX makes marginal exhaust parts for ricers that are just good enough for low hp applications IMHO. personally, i feel that turbos are way too finicky to be going cheap with them.
[worn out statement] i always prefer a gt series garretts even though they are more expensive than others. i haven't had problems in any application with garretts [/worn out statement]. they are worth the investment in that they spool nicer, pull harder, and have many less immediate problems (smoking, etc.) than most of the other turbos that i have used/experienced.

That POS OBX will wear out in months, then you'll buy another one like a fool and have $1600 invested in TWO JUNK turbo's when you could have just bought one high quality piece to begin with. Yes, I've personally seen 5 or more of those OBX and ebay JUNK turbo's FAIL in short time. Go Garrett or quality Garrett clones such as from Turbonetics, or Innovative Turbo Systems (many of the parts are Garrett with theri company name on the housings).

if u go the cheaper route and buy a generic turbo, u will get what u pay for.
although i woundnt worry about it damaging your engine like one poster said.
the compressor wheel would have to make it through your ic before it could chew up an apex seal

yeah, you would have to shred the turbo to mess up the engine. although there is the chance of having a WGA go out and over boosting like crazy. most of the turbos for our cars use external waste gates though, so that probably wouldn't be an issue.

My mod
APEXI POWER FC + Commander
garrett hybrid to4 turbo
3" down pipe
50mm bov
tanabe cat back
Koyo radiator
SMIC intercooler
Walbro fuel pump
Blitz intake
Tokico struts
Most of the money went towards auto to manual conversion. A jdm motor was bought with bad apex seals (my bad luck). Extra fuel injector was added. The entire wire harness was purchase. C-West body kits bought. Tuning and some of the other stuff I can't remember. Not to mention labor.

You people do know that EBAY doesn't make or manufacture these parts, right?
You also know you can buy holset, bullseye, garret, precision power, turbonetics, greddy/trust and hks units on ebay.....right?
OBX parts are pretty good but the qc and rnd lacks....... However if you're going to go china turbo you may as well go with the best and grab obx or find a vendor that has some sort of decent warranty....not a faceless ebay vendor.
On topic, if you have the kind of cash to test one out, go for it. I tried emailing them to see if they have any proof the turbos are true dual ball bearing and if there was any sort of buyer protection against defects and if the wheels were individually balanced or not, if so where and on what machine?........ No dice. No email back and i always check my spam folder before clearing **** out. I feel they were threatened by what i said and nothing to say.
Stone mountain racing or SSAUTOCHROME told me they'd require pictures and the actual unit in order for a claim to occur so atleast they'll stand by the stuff they sell and that's IF you order it through them, not an ebay store. I still wouldn't buy a turbo from them but was just doing homework for the masses since they think the people do not care about customer satisfaction.
SSAUTOCHROME doesn't make those turbos. They just sell them but they're in the business to make money and KNOW the type of rep they have in the tuning community so they will try to make right the best they can on fuckups.
OBX has terrible and i mean TERRIBLE customer service and their track record can be seen on several forums. Just google "obx lsd fail" or some **** like that and see what you come up with....
They did make good on redesigning their lsd though so all the bitching and internet flaming did get back to someone in the company.....
