New T04Z kit.

I was reading today the new HKS catalogue and i noticed that they increased their prices, and i've seen that they made a new kit for the FD3S with the new T04Z turbo which is the same size as the T04R but it's ball bearing. Anybody tried it so far or not?

That's basically what I"m running. I talked to a few builders and had my turbo custom spec'd... afterward I realized that it's pretty much a T04R compressor and turbine 'cept BB. Works great. Do some searches on my car.

I thought the TO4Z was a TO4 with a T51 compressor?

I've always heard it was a BB version of the TO4R.

It is released. I have seen them in some performance shops in Japan. I believe that you can already order them back in the States. But they are ungodly expensive!

woooow there, the TO4R turbos AREN'T ball bearing? Are these just off the shelf turbos from Turbonetics or Garrett or something? Or are you taking about a kit from HKS or any other kit?

a normal T04R is a standard bearing turbo, not BB. The T04Z is a BB T04R. That's your difference. Plus I think that they might be offering some different trims and what not. But basically nothing but a BB T04R. And from what I have read it will be an HKS specific turbo. Just like the T51. Hope that helps.

Racer1, you know that you can get a T04R without having to pay HKS's price right? check out www.cheapturbo.com They carry the exact same thing without the HKS B.S. badging for like a 1/3 of the price. Just thought you might wanna know.

If you wanna pay extra, and I mean EXTRA, then you can get the T51R Kai or T51R SPL in BB. But it's an option that will set you back quite a bit. If you just order a normal T51R then it will be standard bearing and not BB.

Ok don't think anybody will be buying one of these any time soon. Here is the link to it on HKS's website.

http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=1993

Good old $3525.00 price tag for the turbo only.

OMG! That's crazy! If anyone buys one of those turbo's, you should just slap your self in the face for ever paying that much!

Unless it's made of platinum....

I knew that it would be far too expensive to make it worth the price. You can just get a GT40R kit for cheaper of a BB T66 from cheapturbo.com Maybe that's just my opinion though.

I've wanted this turbo since it made its first debut. Now that I see the pricetag, I'll take my money elsewhere once again HKS!!

Well. I didn't know about cheapturbo.com. Thanx guys. It has really good deals. I agree that the price is too much but i just wanna see some reports if eventually anybody buys it. It is one of the most beautiful turbos i've ever seen though

Rotaspinna69 the difference from the journal bearings(standard) from a BB turbo is that the BB will spool earlier and will give it's flow in a smoother way than the journal ones.

Apexi AX series turbos are made with a new technology as they call it "floating metal" whatever that is and they claim faster and smoother spooling than BB turbos. But due to the price i didn't find a review on them yet.

Racer1,

The Apex'i turbos you are talking about are abraided turbos. That is the final clearancing is done with the first spins of the compressor/turbine wheels. That will give you a tighter tolerance than you could've EVER hoped for with standard technology clearancing. Plus it will continue to clearance itself through the life of the turbo. (i.e. with shaft play it will re-clearance itself) They are also "supposedly" using some new type of BB setup. The prices are very very high, but the quality of these turbos is GREAT. A good friend of mine recently ordered one of the new ones and I'll let you all know how he likes it once it's on and tuned.
