New Engine - Get initial tune or use default?

Just got a new (rebuilt at Pineapple Racing) engine.

ECU is Power FC.

Turbos is T04S.

I had planned to take the car to Ground Zero last week to get an initial tune so I could drive the car a few hundred miles to break in the new engine (yes, I know the procedure should be more like 2000 miles, but this car is not normally driven on the street - just need some break in miles)

GZ's dyno broke last week, so there went that plan. The new O2 sensor for the dyno will be there in a couple of days, but my vacation days will be over at that time.

Here's what I would like to know: Is it really necessary to get an initial tune for this?

Or would it be sufficient to reset the Power FC to default values and let it 'learn' the car, just so I can break in the new engine. Then I could go for the dyno tune.

The car seems to be running too rich, and I don't want to drive it that way.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks.

you can use the pfc's modded base map but i'd stay away from boosting within the break-in period. once the break in is complete tune it right away.

If you want to be even safer, get someone's car that has similar mods and drive it normally while staying away from boost

Give Ralph a call, and ask if he has a map you can use for break in. You could also check out the datalogit web page. They have lots of maps around. Or, you could use the default timing settings, and pull some fuel out with the PIM settings. As long as you stay out of boost, it'll be fine. CJ
