Need help bad Greddy T78 install
Just got T78 kit and was trying to install it. Instructions were in japanese so I had no idea which hoses to keep and which hoses to pull. Pretty easy kit to install besides the hoses and bad instructions. Honestly the hardest part was getting the stock sequentials out. Oh, one more thing. Which outlet should I use on the wastegate. It's a Greddy unit
The big port on the wastegate (typically on the bottom) will mate to the manifold and the side port (smaller) will be vented to exhaust/open air.
I believe the top port on the greddy wg is plumbs into compressor pressure (non-vacuum line) and the side port will plumb into boost controller solenoid or manifold vacuum.

Nope !! , the bottom port plumbs into the source of highest pressure ,this pressure pushes against the spring to open the gate at the pre-set (spring) pressure , if you're using a boost controller , the modulated out-put signal from the controller goes to the top of the diaphragm , this pressure plus the spring pressure would try to keep the gate closed . to open the gate the signal to the diaphragm top is bled off to allow the other pressure (at the diaphragm bottom )to overcome the top (spring )pressure and open the gate .
I'm in NYC. It seems that the EGR valve is in the way of the downpipe so I assume it has to be blocked out. Can someone validate this? For $3500 you'd expect Greddy to provide better instructions and block off plates.

Banged the sh*t outta the dp. Hope it doesn't affect flow. Hey, I could use those XS instructions. I think single turbos are pretty much the same in terms of installation. I just need to know which vacuum hoses to plug and which to pull. All the hardware is in already.

DO NOT USE BLOCK OFF PLATES FOR THE EGR!!!!!!, WELD THE 2 HOLES SHUT!!!!(more on this later). The egr(in factory form) is used to allow hot exhaust gases to enter the intake tract when the vehicle is cold so that the vehicle warms up faster, therefore allowing less emissions. In a performance car you don't want this because it will raise intake temps, and therefore allow more chances for detonation. While the EGR is installed in factory form it's ok because it's being controlled by a solenoid, and therefore will only work when the car is cold, or idling. If you are going single you need to remove it because of the downpipe issue(most single turbos), and also it leaves less chances of it getting stuck open and having the intake temps get hot. The problem with using block off plates is that even though they seal the holes they don't stop exhaust gases from flowing from one hole to the next between the block off plate and the intake manifold because after the plates are exposed to heat expansion and contraction they WARP!, seperate inbetween the manifold, and therefore let exhaust gases into the intake from one hole to the other. I've also seen them warp from just tightening them down. The right way to do it is to independently weld to 2 holes SHUT(or on the inside hole on the bottom of the intake). This is why when you see race cars they weld the EGR holes shut. Also, don't weld the block offs to the intake because exhaust will still pass through between the plate and the manifold, defeating the purpose, and leaving you with the same scenario. This has happened to me, and also to some friends of mine, that's why we just weld them shut. As a side note, Japanease FD's don't use EGR's and therefore the intake manifold has no provision for one, that's why they don't have to bang the downpipes, or shave the EGR provision to get them to fit, remember the kits you're getting are made for Japanease cars, that's why we here in the U.S. have fitment problems with the downpipes and they dont. Also if you like you can also use a lower intake manifold from a Jap spec FD to eliminate all the above work and make it easier on yourself if you don't have access to a welder, and wanna keep the install cleaner, if not just weld the 2 holes independently shut. Just my 2 cents.
