NA/Turbo Advice
First, bear with me because I'm pretty good around cars, but a total turbo noob. I've been rebuilding my NA with s4 turbo manifolds - all was good but the turbo I ordered (stock s4, HT18) was seized - so I took it apart to see what was the matter, and the intake wheel is shot, and there's scorch on the exhaust side, with a big crack on the intake side.
I'm trying to get this done as cheap as I can, and as safe as I can - I went S4 because I figured I can port the wastegate, and with a perfectly sane target of 250-275hp, I ought to get a couple 10's of thousands of miles out of it. I also figured I could get used to turbos by using the stock plumbing, the stock mounting, the stock everything, and it would be easier than trying hit a homerun my first time at bat.
Now I can't seem to find a place to order parts for the HT18, and don't even have an idea how much they'd run compared to a new turbo. I'm seeing Garrett's going on Ebay for ~$150, so it's hard to spend $50-100 on a used one, but at the same time, I don't want to end up with a monster turbo that I can't keep the boost down on to be safe for the higher compression rotors.
Any ideas or recommendations?

Let me see if I can get my money back for this destroyed one, or how this works out. The guy I bought it from has a couple of good feedback posts, and he's been pretty straight with me throughout this whole deal.
Truthfully, I'd rather buy a functional s4 turbo and rebuild it so I know that everything's good then spend extra money and try to get by without rebuilding it.
Maybe it wasn't Garrett I saw, but there's a brand new t3/t4 turbo for $209. I'd really prefer to get a good s4 turbo for around $50 and drop another $80 on a rebuild kit - but with a cracked intake side and shredded intake wheel, there's not much I can do with this one.

That's a great deal, if it really has 2000 miles on it. There's a guy on the other forum selling a one with the manifold for $100 though. :1
Is there nowhere I can go to get parts for the turbo though? I can't even find individual parts in my Mazda parts diagrams.

I may take you up on that, but it'll be a couple of days before I get paid. You don't have to hold it for me or anything, though. Let me go ahead and ask now - it turns freely by hand, right?

yeah, the are made by A.P.E.
Me and quite a few of my friends run them on other cars with no problems. My buddy made roughly 550HP/620TQ on his 5.0 mustang with only a set of heads running 15#
I had one of there 60-1 on my DSM for a while pushing about 18# with no problems (sold the car. There are also a few people over on thirdgen.org using them making upwards of 800+HP
