The 227hp(?) stock WRX dynos at 170hp on the DynoJet!
Talk about friction! 25%! This means a 300hp STi will only put down 225hp, which is what a stock FD does with only 255hp at the flywheel.
Until they miraculously get the drivetrain friction numbers down, they need to be making a lot more power just to compare with a RWD platform.
Sure, the AWD is increased performance in traction, but that is only advantageous in lauching from a dead stop and/or road surfaces which have a little slip.

I think the ultimate verdict on RWD vs AWD comes with Porsche's decision to use RWD with their GT class 911 Turbos instead of the AWD used in the standard 911 Turbo.
Also, RWD applications will ALWAYS have a weight advantage over AWD. Example: the 2004 911 GT2 weighs 300lbs less than the 2004 911 Turbo.

Has anyone here driven a Wrx or Evo !?? They're scary to drive not because of the power, but because I feel like I'm in an SUV, you sit so high, and the dammed thing felt like it was going to tip over in a 45 mph turn...
Sure suspension is a big factor, but in my 7 I feel like I'm on rails, and spinning out becomes a much bigger problem than tipping...
There's more to the 7 than 50/50 weight distribution, the fact that it is a true sports car, with a low center of gravity, vs the "sedans" that the EVO and WRX are...
I still think you can corner harder in an FD, since it weighs less, and has a lower center of gravity... which would hold the contact patch to the road longer than a higher center...

I have driven all these cars, sti, evo, wrx, srt4 and of course my 7... The 7 feels the best as far as body roll but my friends wrx will take the corner scary fast with his toyos and intrax suspension.... god i need tires and shocks 
on another note the stock sti pushes out a shitload of whp, partially because they arent typically running the 14psi that subaru advertises them as.
This is AWHP at the wheels for an sti stock, then with nothing but a turboback exhaust.
