uh oh...

i was pretty sure it was supposed to be constant charge.
that's the bad part about not too many guys doing this--not much info on it yet.

but if i had it set wrong, shouldn't i have noticed some other side effects?
car did 373 whp @ 12 psi and gets 20-21 mpg on the freeway.

i think the guys at speed machine have done this before. maybe i'll shoot them an email and see if they could lend some advice. in any case, this is kind of a fun problem. at least i'm learning something new--instead of just cloning other setups.

 

oh yea, and as far as that's concerned, i should probably check to see if there are any control differences between the ls1, 2, nad the 5.3 coils.

i've seen at least 3 or 4 differnt coils that are all very similar on the later gm stuff.

and i really wish i had the plug wires right now. this has got my imagination going. i don't wanna wait 'till monday

 

It's still voltage leaking where it's not supposed to.
It could be possible the spark plug itself is defective.
I've seen spark plugs with a hairline crack in the insulator do this.
I've also seen "defective" (measure resistance from center electrode to the other end, and they should all be about the same, but one was way off) spark plugs out of the box that did this.

You're right - the spark plugs (boot) cannot contain the voltage, and it has to go somewhere.

Also, if you're fouling plugs, this tends to aggravate the problem also.

plugs aren't fouled and i refuse to believe i randomly got 2 sets of bad plugs out of the box. i'll do more homework and see if the coils are actually supposed to be set for constant duty and swap the wires out when they get in.

still runs fine though.

 

One more trick...
Use dielectric grease on the spark plug boots to help it seal.
