My new GT35R setup

I switched the car from a 497.7whp T-88 turbo setup to a GT35R setup. Mazcare did all of the work and did a great job on the install and what not.

It has an exhaust leak, but it looks like a part manufacuring issue that is being resolved right now with ATP. They have been pretty cool about it so far.

I am still in the break in period so I have yet to boost it. I am going to get it tuned in the next week or so and will have some real numbers then.

Basically this is the setup:
GT35R turbo
Greddy tubular manifold
larger throttle body
550/1600 injectors
porsche 911 turbo fuel pump
power fc
HKS ignition amp
brand new street port motor with all kinds of goodies. Blueprinted and ballance.
2mm ceramic apex seals
custom made down pipe and exhaust
greddy BOV
greddy wastegate
Pettit cool charge III intercooler
mazdaspeed radiator
9.5 lbs flywheel
lightened accessory pullies
ACT clutch
and other stuff I am forgetting.

Hopefully going to have in the 400whp range with a very useable power range that is fairly reliable. Anyway. I will update when I get the thing tuned.

nice setup , i kind of like the black piping. let me know how your boost responce is with that turbo once you break it in. (ie what rpm do you hit full boost ?) also seen that you are selling wrx parts. my buddy has one and would be intrested in the utec and vf-22 turbo. send me a pm with some prices.

Sweet set up, that GT35r should do the trick. 400hp is plenty for a street car, and I bet it will eat up stock twin turbo fd's on a autocross course .Very nice touch with the black hard pipes.

I love the set-up (especially how short the IC pipiing is) You shouldn't have hardly any pressure loss or any lag. How is the boost response?

I like the piping, too. Nice soft bends, short pipes, and I think the black color looks nice.

RX7UP, I changed the setup from a T-88 single to this becuase lag to 5500 is not that cool for a street car. 500whp tends to break stuff too.

With the GT35R the boost response is unreal. I am breaking in the new motor and if I look at the accelerator wrong it starts boosting. The boost comes on faster than in my WRX. At 3000 rpms if the throttle is pushed down more than 1/4 the way down it starts building boost. It is takes a lot of concentration to keep the thing from boosting during the break in period (my right foot is heavy, I guess). Fortunatly, I am almost finished with that and should be dyno tuning in the next few days!!

Thanks for the compliments on the piping. It was Charlie's (Mazcare) idea to powder coat it black. I really like it too.

agreed you cant beat the fast response of the GT35R ,great street/road race setup... you have to make a serious effort not to get into boost

Well, dynoed the setup the other day. It did 381.9hp @6500 rpm. We didnt rev any higher due to some boost controll issues. Mazcare is checking out the wastegate and what not and it should be ready to dyno again soon. The drivabity with this turbo is awesome. Even having to shift at 5800 rpms the car is VERY fast and lots of fun to drive. I can't wait drive this thing when I can rev 8000 rpms.

I should have the car back pretty soon and dyno again. I will upload the final dyno chart once it has been done.

Hey Dude. I have pretty much the same setup except 3mm seals. What boost was your 381 at and what AFRs was it?

AFRs are in the 10.5-11.5 range. Boost was "set" to 15 psi. We didnt finish tuning it due to boost control issues.

So we have almost the same...I got 381 at 16psi with between 10.1 and 10.3:1....Since then I installed the HKS twin power and water injection and going back to dyno at 16 psi again to see what changes it made...Then later when I can make it to gotham will go retune to 11.5.

I will be running a similar setup too, don't have a streetport but have a v-mount and couple of variances but pretty similar. Still waiting on my GT35R from aspec, got the rest of the kit but the turbo itself is on backorder. Sounds like I will be very pleased with the setup when its up and running and when I break the motor in.

Update: Got the boost and fuel issues under control but have not been back to the dyno yet or retuned. The AFRs are in the 10.0:1-10.3:1 range (super rich) and boost is holding steady at 14psi. I ran a 12.6@117 on Sunday at grudge wars with full interior on 245 sumitomo V rated street tires (spinning 1st and 2nd and shifting at 6K in 1st and 7K in 2nd to keep the wheels from spinning as much).

It is a very fast setup. My 60 ft time and 1/8th mile time sucked really hard but from the 1/8 mile to the 1/4 mile the thing was very quick.

I am guessing with 15psi and AFR at 11.1:1 or so the car should have very good power(hopefully well over 400whp). I will be dynoing and tuning soon and will update then.

I am using the PowerFC's boost control and a Apex-I solinoid. With the Greddy 54mm wastegate it seems to be working very well.

Hi Boostgasm,
by chance did you buy your GT35R kit from us? if so please contact me as i will take care of your problem. I had a couple of v-band clamps go out to customers that were a tad bit loose. Im trying to track down my customers who got these clamps.

If this is your problem please contact us here: info@a-spectuning.com and ill get you a new clamp!

thanks!

I was having issues with my A spec manifold and downpipe flange leaking, so I had to get it sent to the machine shop for them to machine the manifold flat( $$$), and also had to get the downpipe converted to a 4 bolt flange($$$). Vband would not stop leaking. Even after buying 2 more clamps($$$)

I do not have an A-Spec unit, but rather a APT. I ended up having to buy another v band and it worked fine.
