I have an s5 t2 motor in an fb with a custom 3'' exhaust that I fabbed up. It had a magnaflow 3'' steel cat to vibrant performance ultra quiet resonator to a magnaflow muffler. It was a little loud so for my taste so I threw a flowmaster chambered muffler my buddy gave me in between the resonator and magnaflow muffler in hopes to quiet it down. It actually seems louder now (or maybe just more raspy). I want to quiet it down some more. Is there anything I could replace the flowmaster with that will actually make a noticeable difference? I was thinking a 3'' rb universal. would that do the trick or should I go in a different direction?

 

The Racing Beat mid mufflers used in the TII sytems are really quiet. Another good choice would be the Borla X1-R mufflers. They are full stainless and will hold up to rotary heat. Both are straight through design, but do have good sound absorbtion.

^^I agree with the RB and Borla mufflers. I personally have the RB (as well as 2 other people I know), and my brother uses a Borla X1R muffler as a mid muffler and it gives it a nice tone that seems just right. Generally, the larger the body of the muffler, the better it will absorb the sound waves......in my experience. His rear muffler is rather large too and it's all 3"

 

I have the same issue -- 2 Magnaflow mufflers, and it's still a little too loud. The Borla or RB suggestions sound like good advice. Let us know what you find if you do the swap.
