making your own fuel rails.

Summit racing sells 18 in universal fuel rail for like $25.
1/2 in diameter, so it should flow fine.

Im already using a AN fuel setup and 1600 secondarys, any reason why I shouldnt just make my own rail from these.

seams pretty cheap vs. Rx7 store rails

I don't see a reason not to make them except what's wrong with your FC rails?

well the standard secondary rail cant handel 1600s, plus I dont have the experience or exquipment to bore and modify the stock rails for AN fittings.

$25 for a 18in rail, and a $7 1/2 tap, drill for the stock primarys and the 1600 secondarys, and fab up mounts.
im guessing that there is a specific way to drill them for a injector to seal right. I have a nice drill press so it should be cool.

anybody know how to properly drill them. I think I have it figured out by looking at the stock S5 rails.

wahlahhh, custom fuel rails for about $35

should look really clean too vs, the sort of brown color of the stock rails.

I made my own fuel rails for my cosmo 13B re project. You definitely need a drill press to do the job right.

I guess it'll be free-floating and not leak a single drop of fuel.

Seriously, you need to spec the height and add brackets so that everything will stay in place.  You're paying for the R&D for all of that in a "drop-on" kit.  I guess you have access to a TIG welder to get this all fabbed up?

What type of fuel lines will you be using? - 6/8/10? I used 1/4 npt to -6 AN adapter for the ends of the fuel rail for my cosmo stuff. 1/2" npt normally correspond to -10 AN doesn't it? That's what I'm using for my oil cooler lines

Im planning on 6an for most of the system.

Im looking at the summit catalog right now.

1/2 usually goes to 10an. There are some 8an to 1/2,

damn, I could run 8an from the rails to the regulator and the Y block. and 6an from the y block.

-8 = 1/2" 8/16 of a inch is 1/2

streetracer- why don't you just buy adapter fittings for your FC rail? It's the aluminum style right with the banjo fittings?

Hey jspecracer, you don't have a extra set of those rails laying around do ya?

you can buy steel A/N weld on fittings for cheap from EARL's...I bought four -8 aluminum ones and had a welder weld them on for 35 bucks...I am going to run -8 to the fuel pressure regulator and then reduce it to -6

That is what I'm going to do.... weld on fittings. The Cosmo rails are stamped steel with hose barb connections I'll just cut the ends off them and TIG on some -6's

Thats what I had planned on doing, but I didn't get them TIG welded....that **** amazed me! I've never seen a rail get WET without squirting I primed the pump, and the rail went from dry to having surface gas on it....pretty scary stuff.

You don't need to modify the rails at all to install 1600's. You just need to modify the injectors. I did mine in only a few minutes with a dremel. Give BDC a message. He has pictures of what needs to be done. It's easy.

btw, good luck w/ this. I've often thought of doing this myself but was hoping for some other "experts" to do it first.

Did you use the stock pulsation dampener? Did you have to weld on -6 An fitting? or is there one that can screw into the stock rails. Thanks for the advice guys, this is very good info.

alright, I got my new s4 fuel rail and the AN adapters per Re-Teds website.

they fitt just fine, but I think I need to drill them out.

Two of them reduce the diameter down to about HALF of the normal 6an on the secondary rail. Their special delleroto adapters or something.

Any reason I shouldnt just drill these out.

Im going to attach then to 1/16 steel with a bulkhead nut and drill it with a drill press.
