its normal to have weird oil pressure readings before they first few oil changes. 25psi doesnt sound that bad though, isnt it normal? ~30 at idle, ~60 on throttle

not for a REW motor its not..... it should be higher at idle maybe in the 40~45 psi range and run up to a maximum of about 110~120 at WOT.

gxl90rx7 you should pull the fornt cover and check the o-rings under the front cover that are in the area of the oil pump. chances are one of them slipped while the front cover was being installed. its a common problem for first time rebuilders. hell I gotta double check it myself and I have rebuilt quite a few rotaries over the years.

cheers

i am not sure what to do , i think that maybe it because i used a filter from the turbo 2 you know its kind of a larger filter vs the 93 one that is much smaller , or it could be that i used 10w 30 motor oil , most of the time i run 20w 50

Diabolical is on track, I should not assume that you have a good calibrated gauge, but if you do the 10w 30 will lower your oil pressure significantly, when its warmed up. but when its cold it should still be higher. oil filter should not make a difference.

i have a autometer gauge its brand new i so i can see why my oil presure is so low unless the oil is just to thin but when it cold the oil pressure is over 75psi when is warms up its about 25psi when i rev to 3000rpm its under 50pis

The size of the filter has nothing to do with it , when it fills up with oil there tyhe pressure in it would be the same as your whole system pressure. Take a look at this thread , it might help. https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/your-benefit-maybe-612781/

Quick question, did you properly install the double o-ring behind the front cover? There's a small white plastic o-ring with a rubber o-ring around it that goes on the outer face of the front iron.

The oil pressure seems on the low side, but not extremely low. Because of the fresh engine you can't rev it too high, but based on your px at 1k and 3k rpm it seems ok. I'd say put an easy 500 miles on the motor, keep a close eye on everything, then change it out with some 20w50.

ALWAYS TRUST YOUR INSTRUMENTS! , when things are working good the gauges are trusted and when they go wrong they are questioned ? even if the gauge is off a bit the error usually isnt that huge .

good point - and you're absolutely right. however, i do have a problem with the words "always" and "never". i can think of a few times where gauges had me chasing my tail and for that reason, i don't consider them to be above reproach.

I don't understand why you wouldn't build the motor properly. That part probably costs about a buck from mazda......it's there for a reason.
