Looking for a good turbo kit for my FD

I am looking for a good turbo kit with name brand parts ofcourse, looking to spend around 3-3500. Is it better to buy a whole kit or piece it together? thanks.

I would suggest going with A-Spec, they are great people to deal with and make quality manifolds, guaranteed for life. Depending on your power goals, the GT3574 kit seems like a great street-strip turbo, will make over 500 whp, and still has good spool-up.

Is your car stock now? It takes more than a manifold and a turbo to make it work properly...

For me, it doesn't matter what car you are doing this to. I'm a fan of piecing together your own kit. If you're careful enough you will save a heap of money.

car is bone stock right now, what other upgrades will i need to do engine wise? I am a noob to the rotary game. As far as manifolds i want a name brand, i was looking into the full-race twin scroll, what are some others in the $1000 price range? Also what intercooler should i run, knock off vs name brand. Turbo i am looking for a Gt-35r BB or similar turbo. Someone told be Holsets were a good cheap alternative.

it would probably be easiest if you just got an Aspec 500R kit, which is basically a T04Z style 67mm inducer turbo http://www.a-spectuning.com/html/products/gt500r.htm

if you are "new to the rotary game" you've got a better chance of not screwing something up if you buy a kit. they also sell fuel system kits

what do you mean "professional" ? A known specialist or a local "import shop" ?

If you are bone stock expect to spend $7k-$10k to go single depending on parts.

"If you are bone stock expect to spend $7k-$10k to go single depending on parts."

totally agree w the above est.

in addition to cash there are a large amount of decisions to be made and it is critical that they be made correctly. you absolutely need to spend 6 months reading this forum or work (only) with someone who is a demonstrated rotary specialist.

otherwise after you pick up the pieces and decide to forge on you will be looking for that party.

good luck,

howard

I would really listen to Horward on this one. Dont be one of the statistics and put a single kit on your rx7 just to blow it in a month or two. These cars take a lot of knowledge and care to be taken to the 500whp range. With that being said I would not look at going single turbo until you have the money to do it correctly. My suggestion is mod the twins for a while there is plenty of room with them to play for a while.

It also would be good to know how many miles are on the engine and it's overall health (compression numbers) before heading down this path. It would be a shame to spend a ton of cash on an old tired motor only to have to redo your work a month or two after completion.

The progression should be, fuel system $1000-1500, engine buildup if needed, $4-?K depends, standalone $1500+, clutch and rearend if draging and then lastly, the turbo kit. Otherwise you will spend twice the above. How do I know this, I started with the turbo on mine......When you get ready,
I'd do the to4z kit from Jason@rx7store. It can get you in the 10's and spools like non seqeuntial twins if not quicker. Or I may be selling my t04z setup when the time comes.

Think about BNR's you pretty much just need to upgrade intercooler SMIC is good enough with proper ducting, rad, exhaust system, power fc and fuel injectors/FPR/Fuel pump it'll cost about 5-ish grand with a good tune and around 350-380ish rwhp sequentially which is pretty quick that's my advice to you. I would personally start off with the basics bring the car back up to par....i.e suspension wise personally i'm going with PETIT coilovers, superpro bushings, new trailing arms and some odds and ends here and there and you'll change the whole nature of the car to me personally i fall in love with each modification it keeps the relationship going lol crawl before you walk and stop and smell the flowers take this car on the track and you'll know what you want.
