Locking the distributor for turbo

Racing Beat recommends turbo engines run the leading and trailing set with no separation and no more than 12 degrees BTDC. I tried this with my turbo gen 1 with low boost settings (.6 bar) and found the setting produced low power and slugglish acceleration. I advanced to 20 degrees BTDC on both leading and trailing and improved power greatly on low boost. Also, my distributor is welded up in the "neutral" position. I advise welding up in the fully advanced position, as the adjustment slot needed to be extended with a rotary file to get the 20 degree BTDC setting.

couldn't you have just moved the distributor one tooth? And to get this correct you have zero separation from leading to trailing? i thought you just agreed that you should have 15 degrees separation?
