Question Intercooler Inlet/Oulet sizes

Okay,

I am having an FM intercooler custom made for my turbo conversion (RX 2, with a GT 35/40, 400RWHP @ 15PSI), and need some help on the design.

I have heard several different “ramblings” about inlet and outlet sizes on the I/C, but am unsure about which one will be best for my setup.

So, can someone tell me what is ideal for the Inlet and outlet Spigots on a Intercooler?

I was thinking 3-inch would be the way to go, but this takes away usuable core space, as the amount of room under the hood is limited.

So I guess the real question is should I go with 2.5 inch inlets and gain an extra bit of I/C Core? Or go 3 inch and have less of an inlet/outlet restriction (and less usuable core)?

Thanks

It's hard to say without knowing exactly what it looks like but from what you say, I think I would prefer the 3" piping with the slightly less core area. What type of intercooler are you using?

This will be a Spearco core. Dimensions are:

Core 17" X 12" X 3" with 3 inch Inlet/Outlet or

18" X 12" X 3" with 2.5 inch Inlet/Outlets

So, Inlet/Outlet pipes will determine tank size which in turn will determine my maximum core size. (I have 24" X 12" X 3") total space available to mount this in front of my Radiator.
